Shooters to the line!

When preparing to shoot a string in competition, when is it legal to insert a clip into the rifle?

Is it after the "Ready" command or can it be done before that?

Can it be partially in the rifle but not fully inserted prior to the "Ready" command?

Any help greatly appreciated! Practice rounds went well today!

Don't put the clip in until the "Ready" command.

You can have the clip pre-loaded but you CAN NOT touch, hold or bring your gun off the stand or rest until the READY command is given. Same after the CEASE FIRE command between the two five string shots .

A OCI (open chamber indicator) is required to be inserted when your gun is on the rack or moving from station to station. After you are done shooting you must rack your guy in the stand in front of you on the line and wait for the rangemaster to give instructions to remove the guns for the next relay.

At the nationls in Ridgway there will be a lot of moving around on the line in-between relays and it's important to be aware of other shooters trying to get their guns and scopes on the line.

Yeah I agree and have been at the Conard Cup a number of times to compete. It can be a bit of a zoo and it is important to show courtesy to the other competitors!

I thought that command was 'listo'. I always have trouble with that when I go north for the short summer.

ECI, empty chamber indicator... use to be OBI, open bolt indicator

3.21
An ECI is required in all NRA Silhouette competition to indicate that the action is open and the chamber is empty. The indicator must keep the action open, be inserted into the chamber, and have a bright color flag extending from the firearm's reciever
10.1.1 and 10.1.4, These rules cover when the ECI is to be used.

Mr. O'Grady, Sir. If you have indeed been to the Conard Cup as many time as you say, why ask such a numb skull question about when it is ok to handle your rifle when on the firing line ?

Seamus O'Grady has indeed shot the Conard Cup before. He has recently upgraded his equipment and has been steadily been increasing his scores lately, also, to the point that I'm getting jealous. He was one point shy of being match winner at the last match that we both shot. He really is going to nationals this year. He is not a troll.

I have seen a number of shooters insert the magazine after the ready command, but before they pick up the rifle. I'm sure that most of you have seen the same thing. This is not intended to stir things up, but that seems to me to be a rule violation. IIRC, and I don't have my rule book handy, when loaded, the rifle must be pointed downrange at all times. The rules further state that the rifle is considered loaded when the magazine in inserted. What do you think?

You are correct in that people should reveal their real names and where they are from and not hide behind false B******T aliases! Everyone may not know that I am duckgumbo or duckgumbeaux; therefore, I will post my actual name after this post. By the way metalhead, you should post your real name also along with Dawg, Kitty and a few others that everyone may not know who they really are. It would lend some credibility to what people post!

Actually, my real name is my posting name, kinda. Jneihouse= John Neihouse.....The Kitty tag was a gift from Duckgumbo in reference to a golf head cover that i hung on my gun back when it was (shudder) blue steel and walnut (pre-bling era rifle) and everyone else's rifle looked just like mine (I'm easily confused and distracted).....But, in keeping with the spirit of full disclosure I'll change my signature line......
