Does anyone have any information on this round being used in Silhouette? I am looking VERY hard at a Kimber in 257 Roberts.

I shot one for over 10 years. It is not very reliable on rams. Top 1/3 of target was usually reliable. I think the recoil was simmalar to a 260, sharper faster. I shot into master class when I changed to the 260. The roberts used more powder and didn't have the knockdown. However Tyler Kamp won a national Jr. title with a 250-3000. Shoot whetever makes you smile. I would bet a 6# roberts would thump on you, not real hard but quick. Just my 2 cents.

Thank You Toms. I looked at a 257 Kimber montana and just fell in love with it. I know the recoil would be sharp, but it looks and feels like a good hunting rifle and I can dabble in silhouette occasionally with it.

Glen, My wife carries a Kimber Select Grade in 257 Roberts and it shoots GREAT. I bought it for my self and she shot it 1 time and took it from me. They really like the 100 grain Barnes bullet and works very well on white tail size game. I tried some of the Sierra 120 grain and they didnt shoot real well. Most likely dosent have the rite twist for that heavy of a bullet. You will not be disapointed.

Thanks 44 mag. The gun is so light I was thinking about my wife when I looked at it. I know it's not the best choice for silhouette, but she and I can knock down a few animals on the course and have fun doing it with light loads. I have a Kimber 22 and really like it...this 257 Kimber Montana looks and feels good so I think I'll try to trade for it.

G'day Folks
I used a 257 Roberts as my hunting rifle ( for critters ) for years before taking up silhouette.
When I decided to have a go at silhouette I just used what I had. A change of scope and I was
in business. Never had a ram stand using 120gr Speer SPBT. 100gr spitzers for the rest.

I would think that with the right bullet, like the 120 speer, a quarter bore may be the ideal bore for silhouette. But the bullet limitation will hold the quarter bores from being competitive. Too bad there aren't more bullet selections to choose from or I'd give the 250-3000 a try.

Tom, that is not a 250-300. It is a 6.5 Bobcat. Real close to the 6.5 x 47. Cathy shoots a 6x47. The 107s at about 2900 works well on the rams. If the stands are level and the wind isn't holding them up, a heart shot will take doen a ram most of the time.

I used a 250-3000 as a hunter gun a while back and even used it at the nationals in Raton a couple of times. Any 120 works and rams so long as you avoid the belly hit square in the middle of the target...as there are few match bullets in 25 caliber one simply drives the heavier jacketed hunting bullets hard. Ram losses are no worse than 6mm's and some 6.5's

I traded for the 257 Roberts and now what scope would you put on it? It's stainless and light. I want a scope I can hunt with and I just want to occasionally shoot Silhouette to stay proficient.

The Kimber Montana in 257 Roberts is now very accurate. I put a 6x Leupold range finder reticle on it. I found some light loads in an old speer manual using 4759 that propels a 100 grain bullet at 2000 fps. About like a good 25-20 load in recoil. We went to Raton and shot on the big bore range. Chickens and pigs went down with every hit, but the Rams and Turkeys required a full power load. I think the light rifle will be a great hunting gun and with the light loads allow my wife to shoot big bore silhouette to see if she likes it.

Now that there is a high power range down in "jawga", I may get my old 700 Classic and reloading dies out. It always shot 100 and 120 grain Sierras well out to 400 and 200 yards respectively.
