Ruger Scout for hunter class

Post by savagefan »

HI it's been awhile since my last visit. Forgive me for I have sinned. Is the scout layout sanctioned by NRA for silhouette? Thanx.

It will make weight and does look like the bbl is tapered. I can't tell from the picture I saw if it had a muzzle break. Can't have one in silhouette. It is hard on the people next to you. That 7 pounder has got to kick like a damn mule.

A 7-08 or a 260 would be a great choice of cal. For HP hunter, 9 lbs max, no thumb hole and no muzzle break. Must have a tapered bbl.

It's not a muzzle brake, just a flash hider. I was wondering if forward mounted scope and 10 rd extended mag are NRA acceptable. Also maybe those fwd mtd scopes don't have enough mag for my eyes. It sure holds steady though.

The 10 round mag hangs too far below the bottom of the rifle to fit the jig. You couldn't use the mag to hang on to anyhow. Bring it out and shoot it. The 308 ruled the roost for quite a few years. You might want a scope of at least 10x and external elevation adjustments.

Most people zero their rifle at chickens (200m) My scope settings are chickens-0, pigs-2, turkeys-4 1/2. rams-9 1/2. The 308 may have to go a little more than that with their lower 'BC'.

Have fun shooting your rifle and don't give up if you can't hit over 8 or 10 on your first few matches. It will get better.
