357 mag load data needed

Post by eric614 »

I am looking for a load for PC SIL. Rifle used will be a Uberti 1873. I need to know using unique powder 357 cases and mag. primers how much powder to use. I will be shooting a 125 JSP bullet. Any advice will help.

I'm using a load I got from the guys in Bradford, Pa 12 gr 4227 with a 125 gr Reiner bullett. Works good and not much recoil to deal with.

Thank you. But I am looking for a load using Unique. I am guessing around 6.5 to 7.1 ? Any input would help.

Out of my Marlin 357cal 1894 with a 24" barrel;

125gr jacketed bullets with 5gr of Unique averaged 1066FPS (right at a 2" group at 100m)
125gr jacketed bullets with 7.7gr of Unique averaged 1552FPS (lousy.... about an 8" group at 100m)

158gr jacketed bullets with 5.5gr of Unique averaged 984FPS
158gr jacketed bullets with 7.7gr of Unique averaged 1385FPS
(2" to 2-1/2" 100m groups were common with both loads)

180gr GasChecked Lead bullets with 6gr of Unique averaged 1187FPS (really nice 1" to 1.25" groups at 100m)

All of these were using 357 brass, CCI small pistol standard primers.... I found mag primers to only be required or useful when using H110/W296.

Just my .02,

-Tim

I have been using this load for almost ten years now.
7.1 gr of unique (sierra min load)
125 gr bullet of any make
SP mag primer
Good luck welcome to the addiction.
