Matches? Matches?

Looking to step up to high power from rimfire...
Are there any on line resources for finding
matches in the north-East?

Thinking of going 'hunter` class with an 'already
available` rifle.
(If I get hooked, I'll probably have to build a special.
Who does't need yet another rifle??)

Any thoughts on the 7x57, (handloaded of course).
I want to use a lighter bullet, but worry about tipping
the rams with 120 Grainers....Provided I'm lucky enough
to connect that is.

Where in the Northeast are you?

CJRP runs a match (200 & 300 mtrs) in Jackson NJ on the 1st Saturday of the month from april till Oct.

Atglen PA (outside Philly) runs a match (200, 300, 385 & 500 mtrs) the 3rd Sat, I believe from March till Aug.

Thanks Al.
Don't know that I can hack an outdoor match in January,
('gettin on in years` and the circulation isn't that good),
but I'll archive the sight, maybe see you in the spring.
I've inherited a Rem. 721 in '257 Bob` that I think might
serve as a 'starter' rifle. (Shoots better than I can hold,
- don't they all?), but I wonder if I need more bullet weight
for this purpose.

Thanks 'Guest`
I'm based in East N.J. so the CJRP sounds especially
interresting. - Contacts?

7x57 was once considered the classic silhouette cartridge and was very popular in the sport. Performance-wise it's just a duplicate of the 7-08 (in a longer, slightly less efficient case.) Throw the heaviest bullet the barrel will stabalize at the rams. You are correct that 120's won't get it done.
There are worse calibers for silhouette than 257 Roberts. It's light for rams and to even have a chance on them you'll need a barrel that will handle the heaviest-for-caliber bullets, which may well be a problem. I have a friend who did surprisingly well with a 25-06 which would shoot the 120's.
By all means, jump in and give it a try with whatever is available. Every caliber rings a ram now and then.

Uncle Erv do a search on Central Jersey Rifle and Pistol Club. They have a web site with directions and information. 257 will be OK on Rams at 300 mtrs. Hope to see you there
