No, it is not legal for Hunter Class, Standard, yes.

Actually that isn't necessarily true.

I use one of those stocks in my Standard rifle, whether high power or small bore.

Since we're on the topic, does anyone know if an Anschutz 1907 barrelled action will fit in a HS Precision stock?

Rule 3.1D allows for "silhouette" stocks in Standard. The same exception is not made for hunting rifle. Based on that I place the gun in Standard for the matches I run

(d) Stock: The stock must be traditionally styled and may not be bent and/or twisted so as to deviate from conventional configurations such as factory rifle stocks or silhouette stocks as manufactured by Fajen, McMillan, H-S Precision, and others. The forend, including the trigger guard mounts and screws, shall not exceed 2 1/4 inches wide, and 2 1/4 inches deep measured from the centerline of the bore. Magazines do not have to conform to stock measurements but those that extend below the stock line may not be used as support as per Rule 3.I(h) and 3.14. The forend shall extend a minimum of 8 inches forward of the forward edge of the receiver ring. The comb shall not extend above the centerline of the bore, but Monte Carlo roll may rise 1/2 inch on the off side. The toe of the stock including buttplate or recoil pad shall be no more than 7 inches below the centerline of the bore. Buttplate or recoil pad may not extend below the lower line of the stock.

This was all debated in that other thread I linked to above. If Wooster/Pharr/Robertson stocks are allowed in Hunter then there is zero reason that this stock would not be allowed. (my opinion)

The H.S. stock was originaly designed for standard class rifles, when the hunter class did not exist at the time. The only reason it will not qualify for hunter class, is because the pistol grip is perfectly straight down, versus the Pharr or Wooster that actually have what I call a " C " style grip.

Evelio, out of curiosity approximately when was Hunter Class started?

Going over in my head, it had to be late 80's. I remember Tubb winning both hi power standard and hunter class with a stock Remington varmit rifle in S/S in .243 cal. about 1991 or 1992. That was after his string of victories with a "chin" gun. At the time, I believe standard gun was considered Open Class. For exactly 1 year, NRA instituted I believe "Standard Class", where the rifle had to have a conventional stye stock (as opposed to those wierd and twisted chin guns) and was allowed to weigh 11lbs. Exact year? I would have to defer to the experts

I remember back in the early 90s that we had a heavy rifle and a light rifle class. I was getting ready to make a light rifle when they changed it to hunter class. Must have been around 92 or 93?

Where can I get one of these. I searched and everyone is out of stock. Are they order only?

I called HS yesterday. As it turns out, the website always says they are out of stock because they don't keep any in inventory. They take orders. Lead time is a few months.
