Shooters:
Jerry and I met with our Gun Club Membership last night to discuss the 2012 event and after much deliberation we have decided to host the 2012 Southern National NRA Air Rifle and Smallbore Rifle Silhouette Championship May 31 - June 3, 2012.
This is the first full weekend of June and WILL BE the very last Southern National match that we will host. After 21 years of hosting this match, we are getting too old and tired to do this after this year. We want to give everyone plenty of notice that this will be our last big silhouette match.
Our Swan Song match will be equal in quality or probably better than our other past matches.

Bob,
It is so. Sorry to say. A lot of thought went into this decision. The overall state of the economy will NOT get better until we get a new administration and maybe not until a while after that. Basically Jerry and I are tired and need a break. There are a lot of plusses with a gun club that only has 50 members and is private with the exception of getting someone with fire in the veins to take over the reins. We just do not have the numbers within our membership.. We have great club members and I venture to say more participation percentage wise of the entire membership helping with the actual running of the match.
Regardless, we will host the Swan Song match and it will be even better than last year as we somehow seem to find some little thing that will improve our match.

I have yet to make it to the Southern Nationals, but I have heard from everyone that has ever been: It is an outstanding event and if you could only go to ONE event per year - GO TO THE SOUTHERN NATIONALS - you'll never regret it.
It is now on my calendar - I'm coming next year and do it up right! Maybe while we are all there we could pick up some tips on how to create one of the best matches in our sport. I'm just starting out here in Asheville NC, but hope to achieve the kinds of success you all have had there at Winnsboro! I may never get to those lofty heights to hold a "regional" match, but I can always improve my monthly matches and maybe even run the State match someday. With proper participation and sponsors maybe we can draw in more participants, especially young ones to keep the sport going!
See you next year!

Greg,
We will be glad to let you know everything that we do that makes us a success and everything that we do that is not too good! After all, we "stole" every great idea that we incorporate in our match from attending a lot of big matches and state matches about 20 -25 years ago.
We hope that we live up to our reputation when you come this year. We will treat you so many ways that you have to like at least one of them!
Also, PM sent to you.

So you're saying that, after 2012, we can still COME to Winnsboro... we just don't have to shoot. Why didn't we think of this years ago?

Wow I knew this post would come one day but I figured I had a few more years to get under my skin in Winnie. Totally understandable after the long run you have had and the amount of work I know you all put in to make it happen.
Hell I think you should have it anyway and forget all the extra work that you do. Just make it a little pilgrimage each June for a huge match. Nothing to win but bragging rights at the Southern Nationals after next year but hey THAT is still something in itself if you can pull it off. We can cook our own meals. All you need to work your magic on is the beer wagon and the CoonAss Team shoot shirts
I have been the past 4 years and will be there again this year of course. But honestly you could just run one big ass regular old match without all the frills and I would still attend. While the prizes were great and fun to win it was the shooting the BSing that made the match what it was most of all.
I nominate Mr. B. Finley to take over and run some sort of match to continue the match
If you just wanted a big weekend match to enjoy I bet you still could with a lot less work simply because of the match's popularity itself.
And to think I might actually get Jerry's voice out of my head one day now as he calls out another gun cleaning kit
