New Anschutz 64

This past Sunday I got to try out my new Anschutz 64 msr in a Silhouette match. Only my third. The balance, feel and acuracy is increadable. I feel the rifle is responsible for the 50 percent increase in knocking down targets.

This leads me to a question. In my reading of these forum strings, it is evident that the consensus is that the 54 action is more accurate than the 64. Well, at least in a competent shooters hand. It would make no difference in my hand at this stage. What makes the 54 more accurate than the 64 besides the trigger?

I have seen 64 action sporters and MSRs shoot right along side 5418s
and 1700 series. The bolts lock up differently but I don't know if this is all that significant. I have heard that the lock time is faster on the 64 but I
find that hard to believe with all the mass of the back end of the bolt
shroud having to accelerate vs only the firing pin on the 54.
The bedding might be superior on the 54/1700 with actual recoil lugs.
From recollection I don't think the 64 has a lug but then neither does my
Walther KKMS and it shoots Grrreat!

I envy you starting shooting already this early - I'm looking forward to the
time when I can shoot in comfort year round. We cancelled our Dec 3
match due to snow (2 feet) and we are forecast for snow next week
just in time for Jan 14

Difference in actions

This is my personal opinion, Practically nothing makes an action more accurate than others, now we are talking 54.18 1712 1710 and the rest of the Anchutz actions. REMEMBER we are talking about accurate, as far as I am concerned, the quality of the barrel needs to be 100% The fit to the action needs to be 100% , and the complete barrel action has to be properly bedded into the stock, to where the action is not in a bind.
Once you have acomplished that, then is time to work on the scope, and the rings.
The trigger, or the stock configuration, will not make the rifle more accurate.
I really think that you were more interested on what could make you shoot better, and all I can say now, is practice with the gun you have now, make sure you have a scope that tracks properly, get good zeros, and practice practice practice.
To finish your question the difference in the actions will not make a change in the accurasy of the rifle.

I agree 100%. I should have ended my last post with a similar comment
rather merely alluding to a conclusion.
Tim you have a good rifle. Practice the right things and good things
will happen!
