54MS based hunter

I am sitting here with two Mark Pharr RT/S stocks. One inletted for a 1712 and one inletted for a 54. (Long story). I'm getting ready to send one back. I was originally going to stock my 1712 but after talking to Chicken last night I've started thinking about making my 54MS my hunter. Have any of you made a SINGLE SHOT HUNTER based on the 54MS? Anybody put one through tech at the nationals? I've been told that it would be legal by many people including Greg Conner but after the PCP Sporter air rifle deal and the 2007 Air rifle nationals at Winnsboro being pulled; I have an overwhelming distrust for the rule changing process. If it were going to be a problem, I would just sell my 54MS, buy a 54MSR barreled action and go from there. Any input on this is appreciated. Thank you for your time. Mark Varner

Varn,

Here is what I understand, if it was a single shot from the manufacture and that means any action be it Anschutz or custom. Then you can use it as a hunter, the only thing you can not do is convert a repeater to single shot. I am not sure why but that is what Greg Conner just told one of our local shooter. I have two 40x rimfire single shots set up as hunter gun and one has been thru tech at the nationals. I think that your 5418 single shot would make a fine hunter if you don't mind the reload between shots.

Good luck, Paul

The single shot is OK but remember it has to be a tapered barrel. All factory 54.18 that I have seen have a straight barrel, no taper,
