32 H&R Mag for Pistol Lever Action

Post by Steelshooter »

Was thinking of using a Marlin 1894CB-32 for Cowboy Pistol Lever Action at my local club in Colorado. Anybody shooting these and what was their experience, plus any advise on loads with lead buttler?

Thanks much!

I have one, shoot it a lot, and love it.... Absolutely zero recoil with 1100FPS loads. I've shot some 100gr and 110gr lead with it, but never found a load using plain lead that would group better than about 4 - 6" at 100meters.

I now shoot either Hornady 100g XTPs or Sierra 90gr HPs with 4.0 to 4.3gr of WSF into 1-1/2" scoped groups at 100meters at about 1100FPS. I use Winchester or CCI small pistol primers. At 4.6 to 4.8gr of WSF the groups would open up to around 2 or 2-1/2", but the POI was a full 7 to 8" right of the 4.4gr and lighter groups.

I've also shot the same bullets with 10gr of LilGun and got 1575 to 1600FPS and some 2" groups at 100meters with it. However, I don't shoot them in silhouette cause that much speed just isn't needed.

I also have a 32 H &R Marlin 94, but have not shot it for NRA Sil because it only has a 20 " barrel. I like a heavier gun with a longer sight radius. They are cool rifles though, I am glad I bought mine as they are not made anymore!
