hi,

i am unfamiliar with this round, any one use it? is it mild like a 6.5? is it a long action or will it fit a SA? there is a used No 1 on the rack calling my name, but perhaps i should wait and get the 6.5 creedmoor.

looking for thoughts good bad and ugly.

It’s 2mm longer than a 6.5x55, so it’s best in a long action. It is pretty much a twin of the 7x08 for ballistics. I’ve hunted with one a bunch but never shot a round of silhouette with mine---but it is accurate enough. I probably have never shot a round with it because all I have on mine is iron sights, otherwise it would be a good fit for HP silhouette. Brass is easy to find and it’s easy to get good accurate loads worked up.
The 7x57 is a classy old cartridge, just my opinion but I don’t think you would put yourself at a disadvantage using the 7x57 cartridge.

I have - had a Ruger 77 22" in 7x57. It is now a 7-08. It was used as my hunter gun for a few years 'till its barrel expired at 4700 rds. All it fired was 140 and 160 Sierra flat base spitzers with Reloder 15. It is the ballistic twin to the 7-08 except found in long action rifles. My best scores to date (master ones) was with this cartridge and rifle. Only good thoughts...a very good silhouette round.

Dave, I know you are a fan of the Ruger #1, so am I. As a hunting gun, not competition. I bought a 1B 200th year Liberty in 1976 in .30-06. It had very pretty wood and nice metal fit and finish. But it was a 1.5 inch gun at 100 yds. no matter what loading trick I tried. You should leave that 7x57 in the rack. I think you would be better served with a bolt action rifle for silhouette.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7x57mm_Mauser

It worked pretty well for Eleanor O'connor.

A good caliber for silhouette. Long actions on bolt guns. Good case maybe a bit more capacity than needed for silhouette. The rifle is not the best choice for an accurate silhouette rifle.
