scope survey

I'm a fair weather silhouetter, and I'm spending this weekend at home, in the basement practicing with my air rifle....and on this bloody computer. I think we could do a rifle survey and come up with lotsa CZ's and Anschutz, and toss in a Marlin or two for variety. I'm hoping to discover the same sort of brand dominance in scopes. I don't know how to actually set up the on-line voting, but I'd like to hear who likes what.

Leupold
Weaver
Vortex
sightron
Mueler
other

what's your preference?

This is what I use for both High Power and Smallbore Silhouette.

High Power Silhouette is Leupold 6x18 Target Dot

Smallbore is an El Paso Weaver T10 and El Paso Weaver T 16 both with Target Dots

1) Leupold
2) Sightron
3) Weaver

I tried Mueller... did not work out. Adjustments are mushy and unreliable.

I use Weaver T24 scopes in both smallbore and highpower silhouette. They are the 1/4 minute click and 1/2 minute dot model. I think they offer the best set of features overall, but the glass isn't quite as good as the latest Leupold silhouette scopes. The combination of the great adjustment system, AO being dead on and marked correctly for smallbore silhouette distances, and thumbscrew reset to zero on the target knobs just can't be beat. I had one of the FXIII scopes and sold it and kept the Weavers. I also owned the previous model 6-24x and straight 24x scopes from Sightron, but have not tried their 6-24x Big Sky model officially called a silhouette scope. Both the Weaver and Leupold glass were better than the older model Sightrons.

Leupold FX III
Leupold Custom BR reworked at custom shop for silhouette
Premier / Leupold 18 x 40.

That's it.

Ask Kitty about his Weaver....

i met with the guys at Nightforce, but it will just be too hard to make weight. I have a new project underway with Leupold to make something pretty awesome for silhouette. I don't hold me responsibe for the final price if they make a few for sale.

Wow, I bet that TX200 is seriously heavy. Those things are pretty heavy without a scope, and then adding that big Elite 4200. It should hold steady, until you get tired of lifting it. :)

OK, I'll play.

Smallbore - Leupold 24x BR with 1/2' dot. Greatness
smallbore play toy - Weaver V16 with TK Lee 1/2' dot. Good value
Air rifle - newly acquired Sightron Big Sky 6-24x SIL model - holy cow is this a nice scope! Going to get another.
HP - 6.5-20EFR premier with 1/2' dot. Great scope. Too bad Premier quit making them.

Of all the glass I've looked thru, the Sightron big sky 6-24 SIL model is the best current production. Maybe best all round.
