Now there's a CLA gun!

Centerfires, rimfires, pistol cartridges and everything in between.

Now there's a CLA gun!

Post by Jason »

I was poking around on Gunbroker tonight, considering a new 30-30 for CLA. Here's one that came up. It's a 26" barrel 30-30 that the foreend goes the full length of the barrel. I bet that thing with a tang sight would have a sight radius half a mile long and that weight sitting out front would hold pretty dang steady.

Jason

A few months ago i bought a Winchester 30-30 that is a "67 canadian centenial with a long Oct. barrel. I bought it fairly cheep and the fellow stated it had never been fired. I thought it was kinda cheap looking, but with a tang sight it is really a good shooter! Go with it. You'll at least get some "style points" with it.

I've got the '68 Buffalo Bill Commemorative - same rifle, but without the extra mile of lumber hanging out there. It is by far my favorite rifle. That 26" octagon barrel just holds so steady its wonderful to shoot!

I have the 26" octagon and love it as well. The only thing I would wonder about this style, as I had looked at one, is the heat build up with all the wood and round barrel if it would start to walk the shots. It's unique that we shoot 5 shots and 10 shots in such a short period of time and even the open barrel gets awful warm by the end of the relay.

If I got to shoot more of the CLA matches, I would definitely pick that rifle or one like it up. I have this thing lately with having a different rifle than everyone else, but still one that is good for the task at hand. That one satisfies both requirement. I've had full stock muzzleloaders before, but never even seen a full stock 30-30 lever gun. I'd definitely not have any trouble finding my gun in the rack. :))

I just bought a 30 in barreled uberti model 1873 in 45lc and it shoots real good. I put a tang sight on it and have a mile long sight radius. 8)

I'd like to have a 30" barrel on the 22 Mag that I use in pistol cartridge just for the sight radius, but only if I get to use those fast little rounds that it shoots. I think a 45LC or something slow would require more follow-through discipline than I have. :)

It does force me to keep my head down, which is not a bad thing. The velocity is around 1200 ft /sec with a 250 grain hornady bullet. Works well for both PC and CLA.

Yeah... I bet it does! ESPECIALLY on them half scale chickens!

The words "concave" and "dish shaped" come to mind! [-x

Well Innocent it's all official now and if we have a lack of local nominations next year then we'll maybe give Tim a look in. I know you've been busting so you can tell him now.
