More expensive to feed, but worth it.

Bad Spring

Post by Jerry G »

I noticed that my rifle was starting to get some very large groups. Close to 2 1/2 minutes. My first thought was, new tube for $400+ and another $250 to get it put on. I also was getting about 5% misfires. I knew I didn't leave the powder out of that many shells so I pulled one. It was full of powder.

I replace the firing pin spring. No more misfires and my group is down around 3/4 minute now. The fix cost about $10.

I read somewhere I think it was Tubb (could be wrong) that recommended replacing your spring with every new barrel, I've replaced mine a couple of times, but really didn't notice any difference. FWIW.

You don't notice the difference until you get misfires and erattic ignition which is hell on a good group.

Pete replaces all of his every Christmas. That might be a bit much but they do wear out. I change my Anchutz springs every couple of years but for some reason I ignored my HP.

Jim,

That's the perfect schedule...before you have trouble.
