Winstead-Severin wins smallbore rifle match Print E-mail

Cathy Winstead-Severin of Joplin, Mo. won the smallbore rifle match on the second day of the NRA National Silhouette Championships yesterday at the Ridgway Rifle Club, finishing with a score of 37 out of 40 targets. Winstead-Severin also had a 37 Sunday, finishing second in the opening match.
Enrique Kuess Jr. of Mexico was second overall with a 37 and Derek Greenaway of Howard took third overall with a 36.
Mark Pharr of Round Rock, Texas was the master class winner on day two with a score of 36. Luke Johnson of Marysville was second with a 35 and was the top sub-junior shooter. William Motl was third with a 35 and William Zander of Houston, Texas was fourth with a 35. Ben Marzella of Ridgway was fifth with a 35 and Gabriel Guerra of Monterrey, Mexico placed sixth, finishing with a 35. Laura Goetsch of Whites Creek, Tenn. was seventh with a 35 and Ron Bain of New Haven, Mo. finished eighth with a 34. Susan Peery of Columbia, Mo. was ninth with a 33 and Fred Kielbowick of Ridgway rounded out the top 10 with a score of 32.
Mallory Nichols of Fort Smith, Ark. was the AAA class winner with a score of 34. Carlos Moreno of Mexico was second at 33 and James Kniss of Mount Joy was third with a 32. Harold Frey of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada was fourth with a 30. James Severin of Joplin, Mo. was fifth with a 30 and Byron Moore of North Bend, Wash. was sixth with a 29. Russell Wise of Independence, W. Va., finished seventh Monday with a score of 29 and Enrique Kuess Sr. of Mexico was eighth with a 29. Mark Holsopple of Wilcox placed ninth with a 29 and Glenn Hughes of Birmingham, Ala. was 10th with a 29.
Jorge Moreno of Mexico won the AA class Tuesday with a 31. Kevin Burge of Terra Alta, W. Va., was second with a 28 and David Gillespie of Reedsville, W. Va., took third with a 27. Jorge Cigarroa of Laredo, Texas placed fourth with a 27 and Scott Powers of Clifford, Ontario, Canada placed fifth with a 26. Tim Brown was sixth with a score of 26, Kevin Hanson of Hollywood, Fla. placed seventh with a 26 and Robert Jodoin of Endicott, N.Y. placed eighth with a 24. Hunter Hinds of Loganton took ninth with a 24 and Peter Kofira of Endwell, N.Y. placed 10th at 23.
Thomas Browning of Huntingtown, Md. was the A class winner with a 21. Robert Wright of Ridgway took second with a 19 and Duane Burleson of Sterling Heights, Mich. was third with a 19. David Leedy of Rebersburg was fourth with a score of 18. Paul Campagna finished fifth with a score of 17.
John Jones of Mascot, Va. won the B class with a score of 18. George Petricko of Tracys Landing, Md. was second with a score of 13 and Michele Brennen of Ridgway was third with a score of 13. Adam Avenali of Kane took fourth with nine and John Vandergriff of Richland, Mo. placed fifth at seven.
Competition concludes Tuesday when the 2010 national champion will be crowned in smallbore rifle at the Ridgway Rifle Club

Eric Boos of Little Rock, Wash. won Monday's match with a score of 36 in the smallbore hunting rifle competition at the NRA National Silhouette Championships at the Ridgway Rifle Club. Dennis Martinen of Yakima, Wash. was second as the two men from the state of Washington topped the competition for Monday's match. Cathy Winstead-Severin of Joplin, Mo. took third with a 35 and was the top female shooter.
Fabian Connolly of Ireland won in the master class with a score of 34. Derek Greenaway of Howard was second with a 34 and William Zander of Houston, Texas placed third with a 34. Luke Johnson of Marysville was fourth with a 33 and William Motl took fifth with a 32. Mark Pharr of Round Rock, Texas placed sixth with a 32 and Scott Lurie of Browntown, Va. took seventh with a 32. Ben Marzella of Ridgway was eighth with a 32. Susan Peery of Columbia, Mo. was ninth with a 31 and Walter Robertson of Fairview was 10th with a 31.

Va. was seventh, finishing with a 26. Benny Grigg of Shelby, N.C. was eighth with a 25 and Owen Peters of Richmond, Va. was ninth with a score of 29. Jeffrey Thomas of Johnstown was 10th with a score of 25.

Donald Neilson of Wilcox placed eighth with a score of 17. Kathryn Grigg of Shelby, N.C. was ninth with a 17 and Hartwell Stoneham finished 10th with a 17.

The smallbore rifle competition concluded Tuesday as part of the NRA National Silhouette Championships held at the Ridgway Rifle Club. Cathy Winstead-Severin of Joplin, Mo. is the national champion with a three-day aggregate of 111. She shot 37 each day and won Tuesday’s match as well. Enrique Kuess Jr. of Mexico was second with a score of 105 and Derek Greenaway of Howard was third with a 105.
William Motl was the Senior champion with a score of 101. Scott Powers of Clifford, Ontario, Canada was the Junior champion with a score of 70. Jorge Moreno of Mexico was the Intermediate Junior champion with a score of 87. Luke Johnson of Marysville was the Sub-Junior champion with a score of 97. Gene Blackburn of Young Harris, Ga. was the Super Senior champion with a score of 67.
In the master class, Mark Pharr of Round Rock, Texas was the winner with a total of 104 for the three days. Ben Marzella of Ridgway took second with a mark of 103 and Laura Goetsch of Whites Creek, Tenn. took third with a 103. William Zander of Houston, Texas was fourth with a score of 103 and Susan Peery of Columbia, Mo. took fifth with a 103. Ron Bain of New Haven, Mo. was sixth with a 101 and Motl was seventh with his score of 101. Chris Simmons of Marion, N.C. was eighth with a 99 and PJ Snider of Bozeman, Mont. was ninth with a 98. Johnson took 10th with a 97.
In the AAA class aggregate standings, Carlos Moreno of Mexico was the winner with a score of 96. Michele Brennen of Ridgway was the B class winner overall with a 42. George Petricko of Tracys Landing, Md. was second with a 40 and John Jones of Mascot, Va. was third with a 32. Adam Avenali of Kane was fourth with a 29 and John Vandergriff of Richland, Mo. was fifth with a 24.
In Tuesday’s individual match, Susan Peery was second overall with a 37 and Chris Simmons took third with a 37. Greenaway was third with a 35 and Peter Sedman of Clifford, Ontario, Canada was fourth with a 34. William Zander was fifth with a 34. Marzella was 10th with a 33 as was Fred Kielbowick of Ridgway.

Jorge Cigarroa was the AA class winner Tuesday with a score of 31. Kevin Hanson was second with a 27 and Jorge Moreno of Mexico was third with a 27. Scott Powers placed fourth with a 27 and Hunter Hinds of Loganton was fifth with a 26. Tim Brown was sixth with a 25 and Kevin Burge took seventh with a 25. John McInchak of Erie was eight with a 23 and Peter Kofira of Endwell, N.Y. was ninth with a 23.
Leedy won A class on Tuesday with a 22. Duane Burleson was second with a 20 and Manno was third with a 19. Robert Wright was fourth with a 17 and James Ansell was fifth with a 16.
Brennen was the B class winner on Tuesday with a 16.
Competition at the Ridgway Rifle Club continues with the high power events beginning on Thursday.

The NRA National Silhouette Championships concluded Monday with champions crowned in both smallbore rifle and smallbore hunting rifle. The overall winner was the team of B.A.S.S. (Belgrade Air Shooting Sports), comprised of Susan Peery of Columbia, Mo. (66), Cathy Winstead-Severin of Joplin, Mo. (74) and Laura Goetsch of Whites Creek, Tenn. who had a 72. The team total of 212 was a new national women's record. The team also won in smallbore hunting rifle with a score of 201. Peery had a 68, Winstead-Severin had a 73 and Goetsch had a 60.
Second overall went to Texas State Rifle Association Gold with a 207. That team was comprised of William Zander (69) of Houston, Texas, Mark Pharr (71) of Round Rock and William Motl (67). The team was also second in smallbore hunting rifle with a score of 194. Zander had a 67, Pharr a 63 and Motl finished with a 64.
In master class, the team of "PA RPA Champions" won with a score of 201. Derek Greenaway of Howard had a 70, Ben Marzella of Ridgway had a 70 and Fred Kielbowick of Ridgway had a 61. The team also won in smallbore hunting rifle, finishing with a team mark of 186. Marzella had a 68, Greenaway finished with a 67 and Kielbowick had a score of 51.
The team of B.A.S.S. International was second with a team mark of 182. Fabian Connolly of Ireland had a 59 for the two days. PJ Snider of Bozeman, Mont. had a 64 and James Severin of Joplin, Mo. was third with a 59. This team was third in the smallbore hunting rifle competition with a score of 175. Connolly had a 68, Snider finished with a 59 and Severin had a score of 48.
The team of PE ELL No. 1 was third with a team score of 180. Eric Boos of Little Rock, Wahs. had a 63, Loren Peter of Vancouver, Wash. had a 56 and Dennis Martinen of Yakima, Wash. had a 61. This team was second in the smallbore hunting rifle competition with a score of 182. Boos had a 67, Peter had a 56 and Martinen had a 59.
The team of "Ridgway Rifle Club" took fourth with a team mark of 169. Brian Wakefield of Smethport had a 58 as did teammate Brian Launer. Ken Haupricht had a 53. This team was fifth in smallbore hunting rifle with a mark of 158. Wakefield had a 56, Launer had a 53 and Haupricht had a 49.
In the AAA class, the team of "Mexico 2" was the winner with a score of 194. Enrique Kuess Jr. had a score of 69, Gabriel Guerra had a 65 and Jorge Moreno had a 60. This team also won in smallbore hunting rifle with a score of 178. Kuess Jr. had a 66, Moreno scored a 57 and Guerra had a 55.
The team of "Mexico 1" was second in the AAA class with a 179. Jorge Cigarroa had a 53, Enrique Kuess Sr. had a 59 and Carlos Moreno had a 67. This team was also second in the smallbore hunting rifle competition with a score of 163. Moreno finished with a 63, Kuess Sr. had a 54 and Cigarroa had a 46.
In the AA class, the team of "Michigan" won with a team score of 145. Richard Franke of Clinton Township, Mich. had a 50, Gary Dawson of Rochester, Mich. had a 55 and Duane Burleson of Sterling Heights, Mich. placed with a 40. This team also won in the smallbore hunting rifle with a score of 122. Franke had a 47, Dawson had a 46 and Burleson finished with a score of 29.
In the A class, the team of "Maryland 12th Precinct Pistol Club" finished with a score of 94. Walter Oakley of Lusby, Md. had a score of 36, Thomas Browning of Huntingtown, Md. had a 33 and George Petricko of Tracys Landing, Md. had a score of 25. This team also won in smallbore hunting rifle with a score of 73. Oakley had 30, Browning had a 24 and Petricko had a score of 19.

Thanks for taking the time to post these results!!!! Looks like the Nationals (the real ones) are well attended by the top shooters and the scores are impressive. Again, thanks for posting the results for us shootesr who are unable to attend these matches.
