Approved or Registered State Match

We have been planning the 2007 Southern Nationals for some time and have secured some MAJOR funding from the state of Louisiana that passed through the legislative bodies! Jerry and I are working on many new and better things. Primarily, we will have the roof of the firing line insulated! This should help with the heat.
After reading some of these posts here and elsewhere in the forum, we will have a match to make all the past Southern Nationals look like a popcorn fart! We are seriously considering hosting this match as an NRA "APPROVED" match and NOT a NRA "REGISTERED" state championship match. What will this mean? We will not have to pay ANY NRA fees and will be able to lower (THAT'S RIGHT ---- LOWER) the entry fees to $140 for two guns. The competitors will NOT be able to win an NRA Louisiana title for state champion, senior, lady or any junior titles; however, we will pay the entry fees for each Junior champion that wishes to compete in that year's NRA Nationals if they choose to attend and furnish WGC with a receipt. Long run records will not be set as well as team records.
I have added a poll to help us make an informed and intelligent (I know that is a foreign word to some of you) decision. Jerry and I will present the results to the membership of Winnsboro Gun Club for a decision before the end of October as we cannot wait on the NRA to make a decision as to whether they will let WGC host the 2007 NRA National Air Rifle Silhouette Championship that was given to us and now has been recinded!
I am sure that this will stir up plenty of activity and look forward to hearing from ya'll. We will have better meals and plenty of southern hospitality.
Limey, Get ready form some professional BS!

I actually thought that I would get some response along with the poll to help us make a decision. As of now, it looks to be overwhelming in favor of an "approved" match.
We would like to have some discussion from both sides in the process of deciding. Tonto, are you there?

I'm surprised that only 16 folks have expressed an opinion either way. Of the 150 plus folks that shot the match last year, a good portion of them read this fourm. To me, not casting a vote for or against is a vote that says "Run it anyway you want to, we just want to have a good time" Paying the high junior shooter's entry fee to the nationals is big. Being the Louisiana resident champ means something only to, at the most, two people. How many long run records have been set at Winnsboro? Probably not many if any due to the windy conditions (and the beer wagon). Pe Ell is the place to set long run records. Winnsboro is, to me YMMV, the nearest thing our sport has to a homecoming. Approved or registered, I'll always do my best to be there.

David,
OK -- here goes... lol
IMO the NRA should not have backed out on funding the airgun nats.
As I've mentioned, I don't attribute the blame to Greg -- who's pretty much stuck with orders from above -- but the people upstairs are certainly culpable.
Considering the lengths that you. Jerry and the rest of the Winnsboro club members were prepared to go to to help them make it work, the organization's response was unacceptable.
I think that most of us regard 'Winnsboro' as a family gathering; and we come more for the fun and the chance to see friends with whom we don't normally shoot than for any other reason.
Any way that you run it will be fine with both Sandy and me. We'll be there, just like we are every year, whether it's registered, approved...or considered completely outlaw!
One point that might bear study:
I understand that McClure discussed his thinking with you about making each gun into one 60-shot match. I'm in complete agreement with Charlie on that one. Just as they don't hold back-to-back Superbowls so that the losing team can have a second chance if they aren't 'on' on game day, I don't see why we need 2 40-shot matches to determine a champion. And we could all relax and have more fun if we weren't spending 14 hours on the range each day just to fire 80 record shots!

Looking at the changes that is going to happen, i only see one thing that will actually affect me as an older shooter from Florida. The $5 dollar reduction in fees.
We will try to be there whether it is an approved, registered, disapproved, disassociated, unclassified, unsanctioned match.
As long as it is called Southern Nationals and part of the Trifecta we will try to get there every year. Unless it is cancelled due to a snowstorm.
Can we get the slingshot competition sanctioned as an approved match also?

Gator,
Break out rules apply at ALL NRA approved matches as well as registered matches, so that is not an issue. We seem to be the only match that has actually disqualified competitors due to several reasons that need not expounding on.
Have not put much thought to a 60-shot match each day, but what the heck. We could save money in trophies, give out more award prizes or even more door prizes (is it possible you say!).
Why not start another thread or put another poll on this thread regarding one 60-shot match or two 40-shot matches? As you know, we are for doing what the shooters want; however, you must consider that for the quality of awards that we hand out, most shooters attending want two 40-shot matches.
As a matter of clarification, Jerry and I do not blame Greg Connor for the cancellation. We are just tired of the NRA jerking us around. I dare say that our small club of 38 members puts forth more man hours toward this match than any other club in the world and the only thanks we get from the NRA is to send them money!

David,
No they do not, they only apply to "Registered" as per the little orange book, and most years of the $12 book as well....I 100% agree that it can be lined out in the program....But Gator is correct.

I stand corrected by greater minds (the BS has started already!) and we can put that in the program regarding break-outs.

John,
I hate to admit it but I agree with you, winnie would never be the same if we had 6 hours extra to start the adult entertainment.
David,
What ever you want to do will probly satisfy 90% of the crowd, the other 10% just come to drink, eat and BS.

David, Joel and I like the two 40 round match format split by the lunch break. Your target stands are set up and painted for the 40 round match also. The Southern Nationals are supposed to be the "Endurance Race" of Smallbore Silhouette. Aren't they? Also per Greg Connor long run records are allowed to be set at Associated Matchs. After the shootoffs, lighting is the factor even for young eyes that prevents most successful long run record attempts at Winnsboro not wind. You just cannot see that dot come off the green backgorund in low light. We will be there no matter what the format or rules are because we know we will always be treated fairly at Winnsboro Gun Club and that the playing field will be equal for every competitor.

David, Works for me to go with approved match. I agree mwith dog to keep it at 2 40 rounders. What else are you going to do. We talked about this on the way coming back from Framk's match. I would like to follow what you are going to do, I sure could use the $6.50 to make Friday night a free dinner for shrimp and all the goodies. Let me know what you think, and the rest of the crew. Need to know asap.
