felt recoil for 6.5s

Hi guys, never shot high power silh. only smallbore. Does anyone have the figures for the different types of 6.5s, and as apposed to 7s or 308s. I have been reading alot of these post and it appears the different 6.5s are trying to take over the market and range. Is the Tubb (xc?) round in the mix. Which are easiest on the barrels. Sorry for so many questions, but I am thinking of starting another bad habit. Thanks in advance, david

Most of the top Silhouette cartriges are mod to low recoil...260, 6X47 Lapua and the 7-08 and you can always down load them a bit too. Plus you really dont need to carry to much energy until you shoot the Ram line so you can shoot a light load for the first 3 animals. Plus you can always eat more to up your mass and reduce felt recoil that way....

Felt recoil is pretty subjective...lots of factors involved that relate personally to each shooter...as far as "feeling" recoil, I can tell you this, I have shot my 6.5X47 Lapua with pretty common to the sport loads at 3 nationals, in which the shooter will shoot two 40 round matches a day for 3 days plus sighters and practice and I come away with no soreness in the shoulder and cheek and no recoil induced flinch...and though I am just a bit larger than the average silhouete shooter I don't think that I'm any "tougher" than any other silhouette shooter, so thats a pretty good indicator that felt recoil in that round is pretty mild. Also, my 11 year old grandaughter, who is built very slim and athletically and weighs all of 70 pounds with her vest on, shoots the same round with the same loads and has no problem.

The component of recoil that is never calculated is the speed. A slow push feels less than a sharp hit. Another factor is how much area it is spread over. Recoil doesn't feel as bad if you have a wuss pad.

For a silhouette gun you realy don't need one. For my 300WM I need a big one. They sell them at the wuss store.
