Ok rifle decided scope next

Post by BryanBaxter »

I have decided to go with a great deal I found on a rws 54 in .177. It weighs 9 lbs. I need to scope it. The rifle has an 11mm dovetail. How much will a good set of rings weigh? I am looking at a used Leapers 4-16X50 weighing in at 1lb 8 oz or maybe the leaper Accushot 3-12x44 mini at 1lb 6 oz. Cost is a big factor and I need to be able to get rings and scope for under $200.00. Any money I save on the scope I can use for targets.

Is the RWS 54 recoilless? I know one of the upper end RWS/Diana models is a sidelever that is also recoilless. If it is, it can work to your advantage. Rings don't need to be as "skookum" and just about any scope will stand up.

The 54 is recoilless but only felt recoil. The barrel and action actually move rearward when the gun is fired like an artillery piece. I am still planning on using a magnum rated airgun scope.

I use a Center Point 4-16 on my Daisy 953. The Daisy is a single stroke pneumatic with zero recoil. I contated Center Point and they said to me that all of there scopes are springer rated including magnun springers. I picked up my Center Point on a shopping trip to the states from WalMart for $70.00. It is actually pretty darned good (for the money), but definitely not a higher end scope. :D

Try and find a used Simmons 44MAG 6.5-20X44.

Great scope, can handle springers and has great reliable clicks. Excellent glass. You can get them for around $100 on ebay and many forum classifieds.

My online reading has shown a lot of people like the bushnell 3200. I can go up to the 3200 if I drop down to a 3-10x40.Higher magnifications are budget busters. i have raised my budget to get into this scope. I can get a Swift 6.5-20x44 for the same price. Or I can get a Simmons 44mag 6-21X44 it is $157.00 side parallax, and 1/8th clicks and weighs less than the bushnell.

I need to know if Bushnell elite 3200s quality is worth the reduction in magnification. Is 10x enough for rams @45yds?

I like the target turrets on the Swift but it weighs 4oz more and is 4" longer. I have 2lbs of scope and mount to work with. My rifle is 9 lbs.
