I will be staying for two weeks for the Christmas holiday and into the first week of 2010. I was hoping to get some trigger time in the warm weather there. Maybe they could shut down a few golf courses and open a new range or something. :)) . I guess I won't be retireing to Fla anytime soon. I shoot mainly in NH were we shoot most everything but high power, but a new range is being built as we speek so who knows...

We are on the east coast west of Ft Lauderdale about 20 miles north of Miami...Most of the Rifle shooting is on the East coast...They use to shoot or maybe still do handgun in brooksville which is north of naples or south of where you will be.

Thanks everyone. i'll have to play it by ear I guess. I was hoping a gun friendly state like Fla was going to have lots of places to shoot. Is it over develpoment that has stopped the clubs or is it some enviormental thing?

It is a bit of both overdevelopment and they are gaining shutting the ranges down due to environmental and "safety" reasons. Gun freindly state, but difficult to find a place to compete.

Its funny, they always have more land for homes(my cousin lives in a town that 10 years ago didn't even exist, Trinity). But then the state crys there is not enough water to suport everyone. :-\

As a native east central Floridian, I can say the state is not the same, and the corrupt politians that have allowed the massive construction without regard to the environment, or the emergency evacuation plans with regard to hurricanes has made this a very undesirable state to live in. But the answer to that issue is the ban the use of air conditioning and watch how many survive the drastic temp changes in the winter, and uncfortable humidity in mid/late summer.

We decided years ago the answer was to stop spraying for mosquitos. A few of those old "twin engine" bugs you could hear coming about 4 feet before they got to you, ought to send those snowbirds a packin'. We old timers grew up with 'skeeters and gators and got along.

Now Gator, Season is over....just one game left to watch on New Years... and oh no, now I'm in a quandry, which team to cheer for. Of course if I have to find the cheerleading outfit that I wore for Limey a few years ago at WInnie we'll all be in trouble.
Skeeters, sand flies, stickers, gators, snakes, possums, semi tame coons, hogs and other fine Florida friends have been well taken over by concrete, so if we stop the use of AC maybe we can start breaking up some of the concrete and using it for stone crab beds.
