I just got a CZ 452 that I plan to use for squirrel hunting and silhouette shooting and I am having a hard time deciding what scope to use. For hunting I like a low power scope (4x prefered), but it seems for silhouette shooting most like the high powered scopes (I have only shot one match, so I don't have my own preferances yet). I have a 6-24 tasco that I have thought about trying, but 6x is going to be difficult to hunt with. So other than buying another gun what would you suggest?

I've seen some Leupold 4X12's. !2 is enough power for starting out in sillhouette, I know a lot of people that shoot it.

A Weaver V-16 4-16x42 might work unless you want more magnification at the top end. Sightron makes comparable scopes, at a comparable price in their SII series and for more in their SII Big Sky line. Leupold has a VX3 4.5-14x40 Duplex that's beautiful for about twice as much, although Chicken George can probably help you out there.

Despite the cost, Leupold's VXIII/VX3 6.5-20x40 EFR Target scope is the most versatile you can get and my best advice is to get one and hang onto it. Target knobs are a nuisance in the woods but it's the one scope I know that works beautifully from airguns to high power and into critter hunting. I know they're price but it is the one you really want so use the Tasco until you save enough.

Another thing you are going to have to deal with if you want a duel purpose scope is the Adjustable Objective. If you are walking around in the woods while hunting, focusing your scope for whatever target distance is going to be slow and a pain in the butt. I can't think of a single scope that would be suitable for silhouette that doesn't have a AO. My suggestion is to find a good quick release ring set that will keep a zero. Then you can just swap out two scopes depending on what you are doing that day. That still might seem to be a pain in the butt, but its all I have to suggest right now.

You might luck out with those 4-12 or 4-16 variables...In the field if you set it at 4x and the paralax at 100 they usally work fine..most scopes without the adjustable objective are set at 100 yds.

Rimfire specific scopes frequently have their objective set for 70 yards, so I don't see the AO as a hurdle. My real concern is the target turrets getting snagged.

i shoot squirrels and a crap load of em, with my silo rig cz452 v witha leupold 30x silo on top. i just rest it. close shots are an issue due to the scope being mounted high. i sometimes shoot under them just like chickens!
