WYOMING STATE RIFLE SILHOUETTE
JUNE 20 & 21, 2009 Lander, WY

The 2x60 smallbore followed by 2x80 high power was just about more than the daylight allowed on Saturday. If the storm front hadn’t arrived all would have gone without a hitch. The 20-25 MPH gusts toppled hi-power rams and turkeys with ease, giving the target setters extra work and the shooters white knuckles. The shooters gritted their teeth and bore down. Sunday a few less relays and without the big blow all went well.

Saturday June 20, smallbore standard rifle
Once again it was the Bob Snyder, Littleton, CO show. His 98/120 earned him the Champion trophy; his 7th since 1994. The weather ranged from 60 to 85, bright skies with some thermal twitchiness and moderate overcast and light breezes. Class awards went to: 1st M-Dave Bonner@95, 2nd M-Tyler Kamp@89, 1st AAA-Loren Peter@92, 2nd AAA-Ron Kamp@88, 1st AA-Tom Porter@62, 2nd AA-Tony Fuller@62, 1st A Dan Wanfalt@54, 1st B Larry Cole@ 30.
After a short sight in session, it was high power action. Loren Peter posted a 27 to win match 1, but the weather front caught him on the distant targets in match 2. Tyler Kamp’s 22 for match 2 win put him into the 4 way shoot-off for the Championship @41. After the sudden death banging, it was Bob McAlice, Arvada, CO that came out with the Championship trophy, Steve Hawks 1st AAA, Loren Peter 2nd AAA, Tyler Kamp 3rd AAA and HI-JR. Tony Fuller took class AA @ 30. Dave Larned topped A with 33 and Larry Cole’s 10 was best in B.

Father’s Day June 21, hunting rifle competition
A beautiful morning to get the smallbore program started. Tyler Kamp took the lead by winning the 1st 60 with 51. In match 2 Dave Bonner, Aurora, CO tied the WY 60 shot record at 52, to earn the Champion trophy at 100/120. Tyler Kamp -1st M @99, Steve Hawks -2nd M@94, Loren Peter -3rd M@93, Bob McAlice -1st AAA@78, Tony Fuller -1st AA@ 71, Larry Cole -1st B@26.
The hi-power guns came out and got barrels fouled before heading into the 2x40 event. Dave Bonner toppled 27 in match 1 and followed with 26 to take the Championship @53/80. Loren Peter’s 46 was 1st AAA, Ron Kamp won a shoot-off @44 for 2nd AAA, Jerry Rains taking 3rd. Tony Fuller was top in AA @28. Tom Porter’s 33 won class A and Larry Cole took the B money @ 5.
Sierra Bullets donated bullet certificates and bullet coupons which were won by drawing. Tom Porter and Steve Hawks won the coupons. The certificates went to Jerry Rains and Bob McAlice. Other merchandise was provided by LVSA and winners were: Jerry Grenz & Charles McAbery-100 MTM-LR boxes; Tony Fuller –Tipton action cleaning kit & WY cap; Tyler Kamp – WY cap and Lyman deburring tool.
Thank you – Kamp’s, Spriggs and Reemts for 4wheeler use; Sandy Spriggs for picnic treats; Hosteder, Fallen, McAbery for setting targets; and too all the competitors that smiled thru some nasty weather and helped in all ways to make the match successful.
I pray that all returned home safely. Photos to follow. Best wishes Roger Sebesta match director Lander Valley Sportsmen

Dave, Who is that guy in the green vest...must be a sandbagger.
Great pictures, thanks. Sounds like you all had a great time and burned up a lot of ammo.

Sandbagger..?..

Yeah.... Saturday afternoon HP did get quite windy at times. A strong gust on the firing line knocked over my unattended Kowa / Bogen spotting scope onto the gravel. Luckily, it hit the ground sideways. The padded cordura case softened the impact and it only got a couple of paint nicks on the uncovered part. Could have been worse.

I think I fired the last shot of the match......at about 8:30pm !

Sunday afternoon got windy again for a few relays during HPHR, but not as bad as Sat.

Thanks again Roger, Ron, Tom & Sandy for hosting another great match. See you all next year.

Here are some more photos.

Now Sean, you are supposed to be in the north...where did the -4 come from? As far as being jealous, I don't get jealous...a little green with envy maybe but that is only because I would rather be outside shooting than working. As far as not liking loud noise, I'm the one who has kept and raised parrots, gamefowl and geese for the last 40+ years.
McAlice on the other hand spends so much time practicing in secret, when we actually think he is cleaning his loading bench, he is really in the hot tub dryfiring at a fly on the wall. LOL
