Iron Man Boos

Well, I made it home from Missoula through all the rain. We all had a great time and Mike Cassidy says that attendance was at an all time high for the Iron Man Northwest Regional Match. Weather was mild with some light rain. Shooting conditions were actuall very nice. So was the steak barbeque of course, thank you to Monica and everyone else who helped there.
Eric Boos won the Iron Man. Mind you that is a 320 shot aggregate score of both smallbore and high power. Shooting both rifles the same day can be a real head banger, at least it is for me. I don't have all the scores. I took the camera this time just for that purpose but Junior spent so much battery life looking at his photos in the camera that it died during the awards ceremony.
While we don't have the high jinks common to other matches we do have our own traditions and this year I believe I out did Crackers for equipment issues. It isn't that he didn't try, it's just that I believe I have attained Master class when it comes to failure. Crackers was sure he had a genuine crisis when the the JB's smeared patches he was putting through his barrel kept coming out black. Sorry Crackers, you gotta try harder than that to beat my high power gun on which Everything came loose, the action screws, the upper scope ring screws and the ring-to-base screws. At one point I had to leave the firing line for a screw driver because the gun was rattling each time I mounted it and no, you can't hold it together with your fingers when you shoot. For those who complained about the alabi shots, don't worry, I didn't have the gun rezeroed and didn't get any points. JerryG though was actually able to get me back on target after a few shots with his knowledge of what the approximate come ups some great spotting and we finished the high power matches having created three different sets of zeros! Thanks, Jerry, I owe you a lot. I really would have bought you good beer for all that work but you insisted on that thin stuff. Word to the wise, clean the screws with acetone or lacquer thinner when installing.
Thanks also to all the folks around the campfire each night. It was lots of fun as were all the good friends.
Would some one please post all the scores?

Glad to hear you made it home safe Dave. I'll have to agree this is one of the funest matchs I have been to. Thanks to Mike and Monica, and all the other people who helped with the steak dinner, it was awesome. I got to Missoula on friday afternoon, went to the range to site in the highpower with 78 degree weather and mosquitos so thick it was almost impossible to shoot and swat them away. Saturday it turned out to be in the upper 40's low 50's brrrrrrrr, needles to say didnt need the bug spray from walmart

. Congrats to Eric and all the Pe Ell boys who managed to take home most of the awards. I'll also have to agree with Dave its not easy to shoot smallbore in the morning and highpower in the afternoon, I could barely hold the gun up sunday afternoon. Oh by the way Dave at least you rememberd to load powder in all your rounds

, its a funny thing when the gun goes click and you try to put another round in the camber but cant because the bullet got pushed out from the primer and now you need to hurridly find a cleaning rod to get the bullet out. One out of ten rams is no fun.

But had a great time none the less and will definatley be back next year.

Yeah, that stuck bullet trick was my only real competition in the race for the bottom. The trick is not to let it get to your head. I saw Jared Perry use a borrowed gun to win the Bernhart cup when his scope went south. If he can do it then we can too. Besides, now you got a good story and I bet you bring a cleaning rod to the next match!

I have only a few. See above regarding Junior's use of the camera. An appeal to Harry might get some photos online. He's our official photographer which helps with us compulsive obsessives who can only think of shooting guns and eating steak.
BTW, Mordecai, where where you?

You may have thought the weather was nice but I froze to death. It rained but the wind was nice to us. My personal highlight was finaly shooting a AAA score again. It has been a long struggle for me.
For only having a few highpower matches under his belt, Dave impressed me with his holds so we could "0" his rifle while shooting the match. By the way, he got bumped a class during the match because of his scores.
