Might have found last Dicks w/714

Post by Pete A. »

I'm on a big sales sweep this week; Houston>Mobile>Birmingham> Nashville>Memphis>Greenville>Houston.

I had been to 4 Dicks with no success (this does not include all the Dicks in San Antonio/Austin & Dallas/Ft Worth areas who also have none). Then stopped by chance at the one in Jackson, TN. This one had 24 bricks. I bought 20 so left a bit for some else.

Sweet talked them off by 10% so ended up less than the $250/cs CCI Std Vel in paper boxes at CC. No shipping as discount took care of tax. But price has risen to $24.99/brick.

So boys & I are fixed until probably Sept.

For that price you can buy Eley White Box. I have had much better luck with it. You can then step up to more expensive Eley for the big matches without cleaning and warming up your bbl again.

Eley "White box". What is this and where can you get it for $25/brick???? Cheapest Eley I've found in many many many months was Practice at $4.50 box and it DID NOT preform better than 711B (about the same but not better). The Club, Target, Blue......... are all @ $5+++ with most ++++ more.

I have tried the "Sport" as it it relabled Aguilia. My results with it were much poorer than the 714. Not a fan of Aguila ammo.

My guns don't need this alleged constant cleaning that some assert Fed requires. I use a pull thru every 300-400+/- rounds or before a match. No big deal.

We have a match this Sat so here's the math: me & 2 sons each shoot 4+/- boxes (practice & 80rd match). Fed 711b at $3.75/box times 12 = $45 + gasoline ($10-20) + entry fees ($10-20) + snacks......( all adds up to not an inexpensive day). Add this to daily practice ammo costs. Basically for me it is 3 times the next guys cost (except for Pat S. of course).

ELEY simply does not fit this price point. If we drop an animal or two because of cheaper ammo so be it. At least we are together and at the range (though Thomas has shot some 30+ matches with lowly 711B).

Thomas & I are knocking on AAA's door with this cheap combo. I bet my 12 year old is an "A" after a match or two more.
