IMR4895 and 7-08??
Looks like I'll have a 7-08 in my future, does anyone know if IMR4895 would work (I'd love to stay with one powder for my rifles if possible), and what'd be good loads/velocities for 130's/168's??
I see some folks use Varget, but I've gotten away from that, and I use IMR4895 in everything I used to use Varget with........

Usually shooting scores right in class, too bad its the class below my classification!

Have not shot a 7-08 in a while but used to use 4895 for C-P-T 140 grain bullet with 39 grains of IMR4895 load ran in the mid 2600 fps. I did not use it for rams so I can not recomend how it would do. I doubt you will get much more that 2550 with 168 gr bullet. The powder that I used is no longer available. I use to load a heavy charge of Winchest 785 at 2700 plus for rams.
Good luck,
Paul

A 130 to 140 in the 2550 to 2600 range shoule work fine for C-P-T. I am not sure about the 168 and how reliable it would be on rams at that speed.

I used H4895 when I was shooting 7-08. Aren't they about the same?
I had heard that 4895 (both H and IMR) provided the most consistent burn in cases that weren't very full. Since I was loading fairly light I decided to give it a try. Shooting 168's at 2300 fps I found the 4895 velocities more consistent than the RL-15 which was the only other powder I tried.
A guy at the range that was shooting 7BR convinced me to try the 168's at 2300 for the rams. It worked - never had a ringer.
