What is a 54-16 series?

The "1600" models were made during a short transitional period between the older 1400 series and the more modern 1800 series of rifles. They can be recognized by the "X" in the serial number. Although they weren't officially called the 1600-series, they were called that since 1600 is half-way between 1400 and 1800.

It should be known that getting parts for a 1600/X series rifle can be tricky.

If I'm remembering correctly, Dustin's smallbore rifle is built on a 1600 action.

Allen is basically correct …
I have several X serial # Anschutz 54
They were especially accurate !
Short transition from 14 series ( larger bolt knob )
With standard trigger - 5071 and side safety .
The improvement being :
The safety only stops trigger movement - yet you can open the bolt to unload if necessary ! Also ;
They were constantly working towards shortening the length of firing pin travel - leading eventually to current 54-30 .
The 54 -30 is 30 mm shorter than previous bolts !
Anschutz is trying to compete for a better PRONE action . Shorter like Walter , Bleiker , and of Winchester 52 !
Having said that ; the trigger is essentially the 5018
With a different catch link for that older bolt .
The feeling of the trigger is basically a 5018 !
I personally like the 1900 and the 1600 .
The 1800 had some problems like a serial # on the barrel and NOT
On the receiver ! You change the barrel - no serial # !
I have a Hunter like that .
I happen to have an extra 16 bolt ( no bolt handle )
And firing pin . By the way : the firing pin rarely goes .
If you dry fire with a snap cap OR fired case
You will never break a firing pin .
I am not sure what Dustin has … I thought it was an 1808
Which is a 5018 trigger .

Hi there GSL. You may have just what I need to get back in the game after 4 ears away thanks to a life saving liver transplant on Xmas eve that has me on the mend and ready to camp out a PE ELL to prepare for the CBC. Though that would be dependant on Steve being able to get a stock together for me. Is the barrel contoured or straight requiring a rebarel job to qualify as a franken hunter?

And pardon the dumb question but does it utilize standard 54:18 or 1712 magazines as I have several that Loren Peter sold ne prior tom6habi g to liquidate my rifle collection to pay medical bills and rent as one doesn’t qualify to be on the transplant list without a permanent fixed address. Homelessness is the bane of the transplant communities existence as very quickly after I was diagnosed with alpha one anti triypzin disorder I was unable to work. And qualifying fir disability took a year plus so I’m down a number of vintage smith and Wesson’s and both my 40x and 54:18 franken hunter which went into the paying rent budget. But oh well. I’m still alive (if a whole lot thinner at my 1 week post hospital release weight of 146lbs at six foot three. Skinny Mark should be my ew handle as a stiff breeze can send me shuffling lol!
