Is there any reason a 1712 in its standard wood that would not make hunter class as long as it makes weight and trigger pull in above 2 lbs?

Easily the most common hunter rifle.

When wood was the only stock available as in before synthetic stocks were common, people took the recoil pad off and drilled a hole or holes in the stock if they exceeded maximum weight.
Some would drill two holes. Quite a few drilled that one hole almost all the way to the grip.
In the old days you rarely found a wood hunter rifle on the silhouette ranges that had not been drilled to make weight.
It also moved the balance point forward and a lot of people liked that. The truly lightweight rings were not available back then.

You are not going to be under gunned with that rifle.
Luke Johnson is still winning national matches with a wood stocked 1700 series.

For what it is worth I shoot silhouette with the original 1712 wood stock. You need to be careful about what you use for a scope, rings and bases but I make weight. I don't have a lot of leeway but I have to state matches in 2 different states and i have shot at nationals with this rifle. I have passed all of the tech. inspections. Owning a scale helps if you are concerned about making weight.
