I was being sarcastic... Completely agree that open sights are... open sights. That is the way they shoot it in Mexico.

The stick on aperture on glasses does help for open sights and should be allowed.

If we make it to Raton this year I'm looking forward to this match.

Is there going to be any prizes besides bragging rights?

I'd definitely shoot this locally if it came available but we struggle to get 8 people at a regular SB match and I've been unable to get air rifle going.
Although maybe adding a set of 3/8 targets to our center rail for anyone showing up with open sights or maybe just for first timers would be a worthwhile investment?
Could possibly even make it a single swinger which gets repainted each round?

In SB Lever Action, we occasionally ring the 1/2 size rams if using SV ammo, if rams set forward of the stands/rails or if the wind is blowing towards us. I use HV ammo even though is not quite as accurate as the more expensive SV match ammo to minimize ringing targets.

I believe you texted me via messenger and I answered your questions. If the rifle in question is an unaltered factory sporting/hunting model and comes with open sights it will be legal for this new rifle silhouette discipline. No rule against forearm length either, a mannlicher stock will be allowed.

A lot of interest regarding the Sporting .22 RF Open Sights rifle silhouette match that is going to be held at Raton, NM on July 3 the day before the Western Lever Action Championships start.
I asked the Capstone group for things to give away as door prices and they responded by sending me a package that included a certificate for one brick of SK ammo, one brick of Lapua ammo and one certificate for a one free test appointment (value $50) at the Lapua test performance centers, three hats and some pens.
If you or someone you know would like to donate anything to be given as door prices at this event it would be greatly appreciated and your name would be published as the donor if you don't mind me doing so.
Jim Luke told me he was going to ask a firearms maker to donate a rifle to be given away at our match.
After paying the Wittington Center fees, insurance and miscellaneous expenses if I have any money left over from the entries I am planning on giving it back to you guys as part of the door price raffle.

In addition,following your lead,it was also included in as an event the ( Day After)conclusion of Leveraction Nationals
Thursday June 22.This precedes the weekend Sierra Classic HP Silhouette Regional.So those staying after Leveraction Nationals and shooting HP can have one more event on the days off.This could be considered a warmup for your match at Raton in July.

I am glad to see that Ridgway is doing the same as us at Raton, NM this summer. Best of luck and I hope you get a good turnout!
It only makes sense that the Sporter open sight match follows the SB lever action match, I suggested to do the same and have it at the end of the Western Lever Action Championships but the WC calendar was already done for this year and my match had to be scheduled the day before the Western LA championships. I will talk to Jim about it for next year.

Entries to the Sporting .22 Open Sights event have been coming in since last week. I have already received ten entries and hope to receive a lot more.
Keep them coming guys and gals. Lets make this event just as popular or more than Lever Action and .22BPCRA. An excellent sport for newbies and veterans like me without having to expend a lot of money on equipment.
Tony Tello, started shooting rifle HP silhouette official matches in 1978 and still have the passion for the sport, just wish there were matches near me.

Heads up on possible future of 22 Leveraction.At todays Sportsman’s show in Salamanca,NY at Seneca Casino I saw 3 Marlin 39A.
All were over $1000, yup,not kidding.Therefore it looks like this 22 is following in footsteps of SB scope for expense of equipment.
IMO,this justifies promoting Open Sight Sporter during SB Leveraction matches,( not nationals or big matches,just local to bring in new shooters).There are options besides the Marlin just saying its getting pricey for certain guns.No 30-30 brass or bullets of any kind.

Just a way to suck folks in. Really popular with juniors.

That is great that you guys are doing basically the same thing with the exception that this new discipline calls for factory unaltered sporter/hunting rifles with open sights and not any type of iron sights like (peep/receiver and tang). In the future if this catches up I may offer a scope class for the same kind of sporter/hunting rifles with scopes magnification no more than 4X (variables OK) and no adjusting the elevation and or windage once the match starts.
There is a local match near me that has been doing pretty much the same thing you guys are doing. It is for any .22 with iron sights and they shoot 1/2 size targets although their distances are not exactly 40, 50,75 and 100 meters. Distances are more like 40,60, 77 and 90 meters. They get a fair amount of shooters and have pretty much given up shooting the SB rifle silhouette shooting the 1/5 size targets although they still have the stands, gongs and targets. They are just not up to the challenge of shooting the smaller targets any more.
