Question Free 1/2 inch Plate Steel

Post by atomicbrh »

A friend wants to give me 4 sheets of 1 foot wide X 4 foot long 1/2 inch thick plate steel.
I think each sheet will weigh about 83 pounds. It has been stored inside and is rust free.
I am short on storage room for something like this. I hate to give up free steel of any type.
What would you do with it if you were a metallic silhouette competitor?

Take it to someone who can cut out some targets for you, store 'em under the porch maybe? :D

If it's soft steel it is not really that useful - IMO. To heavy for rimfire and with centerfire loads it will crater and then spit lead in every direction. Seen soft steel throw bullets straight back and hit the shooter. Very unpleasant thing to experience. If you do use it wear glasses.

Just my opinion.

That is my opinion also. Too soft and too thick to make targets for silhouette.
Too thick for pepper poppers for the handgun sports.
Probably going to put it up for sale on bookface.
If any silhouette shooter wants it, they can come and get for free.
