This has probably been covered before but not finding anything by searching the site.

I am putting together a Silhouette rifle and getting stuck on scope mounting. I would like to set the scope to the maximum height for a Standard Rifle, in fact I would set it higher if I could.

Can anyone point me to base(s), rings, mounts, risers, adapters and so on that get the scope to the maximum legal height, is stable and does so with a minimum of weight? Needs to be all aluminum for weight considerations.

The action has Remington 700 spacing.

I would love to find one of Don Weathersbee’s one piece mounts but they are pretty rare.

Is it 2" from the top of the receiver to the bottom of the scope main tube?

Is it sloped, 10 or so MOA?

Who is Marv? How do I contact him?

Is that a filter on the front of the scope? What color? I have often though of doing that.

I have a really hard time getting my eyes aligned through the scope unless the scope is pretty high. I would go higher than 2" if allowed but it is what it is.

I feel the same way. I have a few of Wimpy's mounts. They're great. He can make them for several different actions. He'll take good care of you. He's a great guy.

The ring on front is an adapter to go from the old threads to the new threads. I do have a set of 4 filters with the new thread.

Top of bolt to bottom of scope is 1 1/4 inches.

One of the Wa shooters can give you the contact for Marv if he is still working. Grouchy old ####### but he does good work.

I was looking through my storage unit today and look what I found. I vaguely remember having it.

From the top of the receiver to the bottom of the tube with a low mount is 1 9/16". It is aluminum and weighs 2.6 oz. It is marked "DW TOOL CO" and has a slope to it, at least 10 MOA maybe more.
With some higher rings I will be able to get to 2".

Still need one for the High Power but this will be good for the Smallbore.

Have you shot at 2" before? I found that instead of a cheek weld I got a chin touch. Hated it when it got too high.Think I'm settled now at about 1-1/2". Just sayin, if you haven't shot at 2" you might want to fix up a block of wood with some duct tape to test out the sighting at that height.

Guess I don't know what a "chin touch" is or how it would work.

I'm just saying I couldn't get a firm cheek weld like I am used to. The scope was too high and instead of my cheek it only touched my chin, which made it too hard to hold steady. For me.

Good advice old stranger. The scope should be high enough so you don't bend your neck down but low enough to get a good cheek weld. A 2 point stock support isn't good enough.

In which case 2" is still not high enough for me.

I did manage to find some rings that will be within the rules by less than 1/32nd".

how does one determine the scope height initially? That is, how does one attach the scope to different heights temporally to check the view through the scope while having the correct neck and cheek position?
