Its not a bad idea....right now you can check a competitor's class via NRA website in High Power etc but not for silhouette. So scores will begin being reported?

I have to keep reminding myself change is not always bad or wrong. I can see some positives all other shooting sports that I am aware of report scores to the national organization and they return classification cards. However, I hate to see the NRA go way from Master, AAA, etc, this has been a long tradition in this type of sport.

One concern for me is if they are going to at $5 (or abouts) per shooter to perform this classification service, I wonder how many clubs will drop or shooters due to the higher prices?

I mentioned this at our monthly match this weekend, and no one there had heard about it yet. There were a few raised eyebrows, but nothing more. I am eager to hear about the cost associated with this change. Also, Greg Conner must be retiring, I know he wouldn't allow this new fangled computery stuff on his watch! Computers are just a fad, they will never catch on!

Even after all the banter here, I'm still really looking forward to having silhouette classifications match up to the other disciplines and getting all of it online. Maybe we'll finally get everything able to be done without mailing things like match reports in and getting multiple "unreported match" notifications in the mail, even after sending them in multiple times. Online registration of matches, online reporting of matches, online shooter classifications, online match results, all available instantly. That sounds wonderful to me, both as a shooter and as a match director.

Just so I'm not totally confused - could someone recap the new classifications?

Jason, I think you OD'd on sugar or something yesterday. I think we would be surprised if we see even half of what you wished for.

There are still classification books. I just received 30 2015 books for the up coming season.
AS I'm fairly new to this I don't have alot of years to compare it to, it's only our 2nd year running matches.

The anticipated changes are for 2016

Well, I didn't hear from Dennis today. He was out of the office last week and I would suppose he may have had more immediate matters to attend to, besides a 2016 issue.
I have been really trying to be open minded about this, and I have asked for online reporting on every Jury Report for the last three years. Let me ask this question. If the other shooting disciplines holding NRA sanctioned matches pay a per shooter fee for each match, in all fairness why shouldn't silhouette?
I must admit I don't know a thing about NRA Highpower as far as how they run their matches in regard to costs. What would it cost to shoot a NRA HP sanctioned match at a local club? I'm looking at comparing our operating costs compared to theirs. What do they give for awards? Our biggest expense is the target setters, agree, disagree?
How many years has NRA HP paid a per shooter fee for approved matches?

Al,good question.

Like you I am trying to keep an open mind. But as I stated before the Silhouette Division at the NRA seems to be incapable of keeping records. Unfortunately, I suspect monthly score record keeping to be just as bad or worse.

To more directly answer your question, silhouette from my understanding years and years ago did send money in per match. It was rumorred to be too much money (hard to believe this is the NRA we are talking about).

More to the point NRA highpower match fees range from about 15 to 25 dollars per match depending on if you are a club member or not.

My bigger concern is what impact this is going to have in the decline of silhouette in general. Match fees have historically run here about $10 with a meal. Add 5 for the NRA puts it at 15. Now someone has to collect and send to the NRA. My guess clubs will drop except for special occasions. This will certainly kill registered airgun silhouette in Houston.

I am like a said trying to hold an open mind but I am not sure if there is much positive.

GregG, I have been involved with running silhouette matches since 1984 and we never sent fees for approved matches, only registered matches. State and Regionals.
What difference does it make if a shooter belongs to the club or not at a NRA HP match for assessing fees?

Also when I started shooting in 1982 you bought a Classicication Score Card to carry for I think $1.00.
