Give it a few days. Bill is going to call the Omni and see if he can get a "special" rate for the match.

It has been more that a few days since Motl was going to talk the Omni into a great room rate as he usually does. Inform us about what is going on with the 2013 Texas State Smallbore Match. My thoughts: Making a Texas State Match at the Bayou Club shorter(arriving earlier so that competitors can hurry through shooting 60 rounds and "get finished" early) is like eating a great steak with the trimmings as fast as you can eat it standing up. When Bayou Rifle Club puts on a match it should be lingered over, savored and enjoyed to the fullest extent. They always put on a great Match that requires more work than usual because of their range's location.
When I shot a Match there I did not realize that the club members have to pick up every piece of brass after the match. I left my brass where ejected when I could have easily caught every piece. I apologize for that but I did not hear about that regulation.

If you like Smallbore Silhouette, make it a point to make one of the Houston matches sometime during your shooting career, you will really enjoy it.

Spoilsport!

We shot it once in a tropical storm. Does that count? A big sporting clays match that was on TV claimed hurricane force winds.

Oh, it just might be a bit cooler.

Just contacted the Omni about a room... they said it'll be $450 for two nights. Asked about the special rate and the response was "Whuut??" Now... we really like you guys in Houston, but there are limits to our largesse. Holiday Inn "Select" said they'd save us some money... about $10/day. Much like the neutered dog, they just don't get it.

To those who got a high rate quote from the Omni, you may want to try again. A few days ago the website was saying no special rates available for those days, but now it is allowing AAA and senior discounts. Rates around $153 per night, Total $358 for two nights with taxes. Still high, but better than what was posted earlier.

I got a room at the Wyndham for $84/night with AAA rate. I think it's within a mile of the range.

I don't know if any one asked but is camping allowed at the range? There is power and the weather wouldn't be misserable hot.

Questions:

1) Registration is accepted the day of the match but it is preferred that you register early. If you cannot make the match, your funds will be returned.

2) Camping is NOT allowed. Traders village is about 7-8 miles north of the range.

FYI per an e mail I just received.....

As of today the Addicks range has standing water as a result of the 7 inches of
rain received this Saturday. This is the location for the state small-bore match
and is located in the Addick's reservoir which is subject to being flooded.

Unfortunately at this time, it is not clear if the range will be safe for the
shoot this weekend. The water level seems to show a leveling off (see
http://waterdata.usgs.gov/usa/nwis/uv?site_no=08073000).

Right now just my guess there is a 50/50 chance the match can be held. We are
looking at alternative locations (in Houston). A final decision worst case will
be made Wednesday night. This should allow everyone to cancel their hotel
reservations without penalty.

Wish us luck and hopefully there will be no more rain and the water will drain.

Call me in the evening is you have any questions and please spread the word.
