Those 144gr Lapua bullets are not like the military bullets that damage targets. In the past most match bullets including Sierra Match Kings were the full patch kind or FMJ in other words the manufactures instead of closing the jacket on the end or point of the bullet would leave the lead exposed on the other end of the bullet but the jackets are thin and do not damage the targets. Nobody else that I know makes match bullets that way any more but since shooters in Europe and other parts of the world still like the 6.5 144 FMJ bullets, Lapua continues to make them. At one time Lapua had discontinued selling them in the US and a few of us here in CA ordered 50K 144 bullets and had them dropped shipped. At ram distance they are excellent although some shooters do not think they are as accurate as the 139 gr Scenar bullets. All my rifles like them and I will continue using them as long as I can get them.

Lone Ringer, you said you have used the bullet pointer tool that closes the tip of the bullet. Have you noticed any improvement in the bullets? Metlap trimmers were all the rage for a while now you don't hear to much about them.

9, sorry but it was not me that said I had a tool to close the tips of the bullets. The only thing I do to my bullets is put molly on them.

Bob Cauterucio used to offer a service on his VLD bullets where he would close the point on them. I am not sure that there was any real difference in performance between the bullets with the closed point and the conventional point when it comes to silhouette. Like any of his bullets, they were fine bullets, I just never really say any particular difference in performance.

Some manufacturer's bullets used to have a fairly large meplat/hollow point and that may have made a difference in the ballistic coefficient worth bothering about at longer distances, but most bullets these days have a reasonably small opening. The Norma 130 gr VLD has always had a very small opening.

Now that you wrote that about Bob Cauterucio on my last order he included some with the closed point and I was supposed to test them to see if there was a difference in the size of the groups but I never did. That is what happens when you get old enough to join the Senior class.

I can't recall making that mistake.

I would like to thank every one for there input. Am am looking forward to getting the gun back from 10x to start working on loads. Also just found A xp 100 chambered in 6.5x47. I think I need to have that. Mite be alot of fun in A handgun. Thanks again Mike Haynes
