By the way, Trent, ABSOLUTELY no disrespect intended to ward your wife or you and what you are working on....If we never open our minds to innovation we will never progress....and of course, mine is not the last, definative word on the subject, there are many very good coaches out there that give sacrificially to the sport and they may use a completely different approach. And I apoligize in advance if this hi-jacks the thread :D

Commander Kitty, I agree with your comments on a coach, although I also agree with Trent here on the subject of adults. As children rarely have inhibitions, we develop those by society forcing us to. Most young shooters do not have the inihbitions that adults do, so other than to hear and listen to a lecture on the mental game...any session would be wasted like much of the other lectures that children ignore. It will however become part of the subconcious thoughts, as many of our old coaches, mentors and parents comments come back to us when we see the same thing happening to younger or new shooters.

BTW you guys coming to Texas HP?

Can't get her out of school for Texas HP and still have the time off from school for air rilfle and Winnie the Southern Nationals. We will be changing schools to a more shooting sports tolerant school next year...We will instead attend the Twila Toney Memorial Shoot. I really want to pay my respect to Twila and her husband. Really loved her spirit and they were good friends.

Amen to the Twila match, would love to attend that. Already a scramble with Texas HP being so close to Winny time frame. At least you have the prioities right on school, they can learn so much more by travelling and doing than they can in a class room reading a book or watching a video.

Some schools around here are so anti gun it's pathetic...It does not reflect the values of the community, just the PC views of the administration. I volunteer a considerable amount of my time to my old high school's athletic department, coordinating the defensive stats, announcing basketball and other various duties....The administration all hunt and shoot. They are all alumni and the school is heavily supported by a faithful alumni base. The school truely reflects the mores of the community. Kolby attends there and whenever we had an event he always had an excused absence. When he won they announced it over the PA system in the morning announcements. At the school Mallory attends she isn't allowed to wear any pro gun tee shirts, none that have a pic of a firearm on it anywhere. She was given the assignment in GT to write a report on their favorite activity. She was initially denied permission to do the report until we "appealed" to the administration. We live close enough to transfer, she can ride to school with Kolby and when he's pardoned or graduated I can take her to school. So, next school year Mini Kitty will be a Tiger...

When it comes to the mental game, there's no substitute for starting young. Sorry her current school is like that, John, since you guys really have worked very, very hard.

Innocent wrote:Ask your wife about parent and spouse instruction on sports. I can remember, while I never had any problems taking coaching from my father while practicing, during a match, the sight of him would completely blow my concentration.
As an instructor, I have seen too many spouse situations totally destroy any learning, yet there are times I have seen it sucessful as well. I have coached one young lady that was doing well under her fathers lead, up to a point, he could not break her into the AAA, once he finally let go she went quickly to a master shooter.

Enjoy your mental training, and I'll save some feathers for you to tie when I pluck the birds!

The whole spousal instruction is a tumultuous adventure only to be taken by the brave! :D I wanted my wife to learn how to fly fish so that we could go on little fly fishing excursions, but I knew better than trying to teach her myself. That would have ended with her breaking my Sage rod on me after she whipped me silly with it. b-( I took her to a resort that offered free fly fishing lessons and I let a retired guide teach her how to cast and deal with the "art" of fly fishing. She was rewarded with a pleasant get away at a mountain resort while we were there. It worked out splendid! :-bd

Trent, game cocks, macaws, african greys, assorted amazons, conures...need I go on, most of the local peafowl have been moved but still can run a few of them down when needed?

Good job on instructing, works well when others do the teaching.

Kitty... Picked up on the 'UTEP Miner' comment. Oldest urchin had that opportunity and didn't avail herself of it... (and I let her live...) but now REALLY regrets it. MiniKitty needs to visit with her for a little inspirational girl-to-girl chat at W'sboro. Right now, there's a lot of attention on the 'Horned Frogs' and that would be closer to home.

Sounds great.....All the lady shooters have been super gracious to Mini Kitty...The silhouette family has some pretty good folks in it....You have the advantages of having a big extended family, but they don't all come over at Thanksgiving :D
