Re: What do the targets weigh ?
Being new to HP i'll stick to my 260 till I can hit enough rams that ringing a few becomes a concern. till then I'm just jerking the trigger for the fun of it.
I would be very concerned with the pierced primers thou. I burned out a firing pin once till it pierced every primer. It was old factory Rem. ammo with the copper cups. Now I know why the ammo was so cheep.

Re: What do the targets weigh ?
A classic case of a blown primer. I was shooting warm up at a 600 yd. benchrest match in '82. My partner asked me to fire 3 rounds of his .308 ammo in my rifle. I should have known better, but I did. Shot one was stiff bolt lift. Shot two was painful to my face. The escaping gas mostly ran down the bolt races and into my face. I was wearing sunglasses and they got dirty. Real stiff bolt lift, primer in several pieces but no harm to my gun. There was NO shot three! It looked like my face was covered with bug bites. The load was a near max charge of H322 behind a 168 MK. It was a hot day and what was safe in his was not in mine.I wont do that again. The pocket opened up from .210 to .250. and look at the size of the flash hole. There is no point to loading on the fringes of safety.

Yeah...that thin little primer cup is the weak link in a cartridge. It is plenty strong enough when subjected to normal pressures.

My Rams seem to go down better when the load is below max..I just dont push it...They usally shoot more accurately..the brass last longer...its eazier on the gun and shooter. If I need more wooop ass on the target...I go to a larger gun....like a 7-08 or a 308....with the 7-08 getting the nod due to its superior balistics.

Right on Malinois....I mean ..Your wisdom reflects the teachings of the 7mm Guru, my son. I am considering appointing you and AZRifle as junior apprentice Gurus. Sweet!! You guys can help me keep up with the loading chores!!malinois wrote: . Man , that was some boring reading. You would have to be a physics geek or someone that worked in a gov't. quality lab or something to appreciate it. Glad I deleted it.

Malinois, it is a shame you have no HP ranges within reasonable driving distance. You and 259 need to load up the wagons and head West. Pick up AD9 along the way.

Sorry Gal, but your all over the country like a bad penny anyhow. Besides , I meant a station wagon, not a covered wagon. I can picture you riding shotgun, all dressed up like your avatar photo, doing all the cooking and cleaning while the men folk hunt for supper with their .264 cal. silhouette rifles.
love you too, girl
