well you've convinced me to give it a go despite being called a troll...

i'm not thrilled that my finances may keep me from being a master but thats life. of course, the lack of young blood may keep my competition low. in a few years i might be the only one there. ha.

Thanks for the discussion. Some of us were lurking in the dark reading all this without commenting.

I learned a lot and am reminded that I need to pursue some higher class ammo. Though, as noted above, practice makes the greatest difference.

I'd like to point out, for those who are dealing with the entry level shooters, lots of guns can be shot up into AA but they need: 1) a decent trigger, 2) a scope of sufficient power and adjustability, 3) a stock that fits.

All of these can be accomplished relatively cheaply (compared to what a lot of us have spent!). A trigger job, scope knobs and a butt pad and many guns will shoot so much better. After that it's the shooters decision about what's reasonable.

I was thinking that my memory was falling me and did not remember things quite the way they happened but when you said that Dave Imas was correct in the fact that the 1989 vote had one negative vote against the Chin Gun and it was M Everheart

Guest,

You are correct that I was NOT there, but do trust Dave Imas and have also heard the same things from many other people. Margerite Everheart WAS on the committee that got rid of the chin gun and that is not in dispute. I do think that Jason is correct in that posting as Guest is pretty chickens**t.

I do not attend many NRA National competitions for the fact that we have hosted two of the best NRA Smallbore National matches in 1996 and 1998 and bid on them every year since with the endorsement the Governor, Lt. Governor and the full support of the Louisiana Department of Culture, Revreation and Tourism and been turned down for various reasons - mainly heat. I guess that it was cool last year in Arizona!

We have what I consider a very successful match because we cater to the competitors and try to give them what they want and a value for their money. We also work our a$$es off for 6 - 9 months preparing for our match.

You may not like what I say and I will apologize if wrong about Marguerite being at any meetings or whatever you say but I DO know that she is a liar and can prove it with many witnesses.

That being said, I really do not care who you are either and if you wish, continue to hide under the Guest nom de plum. BUT remember that I have NO respect or trust for anonymous posts from anyone.

You can call me anything you want but a hypocrite!

Go look at this PDF. It's an excerpt from a book by David Tubbs and has pictures.

All that said, they provided no real advantage and were a pain in the butt to shoot. I'm pretty certain that there was no real dip in scores or performance after they were outlawed that would suggest a significant advantage was gained by shooting them.
The Chin Guns helped David Tubb win 6 National HP Championships and Troy Lawton maybe one or two SB. Notice the loose leather vest on the picture you think there is room there for a 4

Thanks Jason. Very interesting design. Maybe they should RE allow this gun since the hunter gun is so close to the Standard gun for many. I could benefit shooting this gun right handed with my left eye ( eye problem). Nevermind I dont want to bring up more controversy.

Speaking of the leather vests being tighter than the rules should allow, is that ever really enforced? I counted at least four shooters at Pe Ell who had their vests tight enough that the straps were being strained. I bet a 1" pvc pipe couldn't have made it through there without blood loss, much less a 4" one.

Edit: corrected horrendous spelling from trying to type with one hand while giving baby a bottle with the other.
