One example that comes to mind was the year that they allowed relined barrels in Hunter's Pistol. The committee did not like what people did and so they outlawed them at the next meeting and did not even grandfather the ones people had.

Another, that caused no end of ill will, wasn't one year strictly speaking, It involved the "chin guns". The committee did not like what people were doing and tried to simply outlaw them over the objections of everyone involved. Instead they created a special status/category for about a year and then banned them.

You really don't want to go very far down that road. It was not a pleasant journey.

You forgot the most famous one. The one year of PCP sporter air rifle. What really sucked on that one was a lot of the national records set with springers were destroyed in that one year with PCP guns and they still stand. I remember telling shooters not to run out and invest in a PCP for sporter air rifle because it was a huge mistake and would not last. It's too bad they didn't have the guts at the time to stop the mess in SB and HP hunter rifle.

Ah, yes, brings back memories of the old smallbore Light Rifle class, when many shooters made up 7.5 lb. target style silhouette rifles, only to have them suddenly turned useless when the rule became "unmodified factory hunting rifle", subsequently changed again to permit modified and custom hunting type rifles and an 8.5 lb. weight limit. The current rule makes sense to me. Too bad it took so much twisting and turning, and expense to shooters, to get there. JMO.
