Yes it is. It gives me 2650 fps. My friend loads 38 gr behind his 139 molly scenar. I think they are comming out a little over 2800 fps.

44mag will the 142's have any power left to topple the coyotes at 1000 yds.? I'm building a rifle for this too and want to know if you've done it yet. I have a 260 collecting dust and was going to use it but wanted to build a 280 rem 40 A.I. just for this.

The guys from 10x are using 120 grn for this with good success. I have A bunch of 140s thats why I want to use them. Mike

One possible alternative to the 280 Rem AI is the 284 Win. It has been fairly popular in F-Class at similar distances and does not require fire forming brass.

I have been shooting a 1000 yd target with my 115 gr 243. Pokes right thru a 3/4 inch thick piece of plywood so a dawg shouldn't be a problem. Big problem is hitting the little buggers.

Rbriscoe, the fireforming is not a big deal with any A.I. you just shot the standard round and out pops an improved round. I was not sure the round had the power to drop the coyotes or anything else at the long range.

It is not that it is hard to fireform, but a matter of barrel wear and bullets. Take your pick, but the 284 Win is ready to go and does pretty much the same thing.

Jerry, I have the feeling they are talking about metallic coyotes silhouettes they shoot at 1000 yards and a 115gr bullet may be kind of lite for that kind of shooting but I may be wrong.

Jerry, yes they are talking about a metallic dogs....only 10" wide at the base and in a howling position, tough to hit at a 1000 yds.

I am not aware of any barrel ware isues with the A.I. carts. and as for bullets I gotz plenty.

Barrel wear is not exclusive to an A.I. though any higher capacity case will have more wear than a smaller one. The bullets part is that every shot you fire when forming cases is one taken away from the accuracy life of the barrel. You seem to be comfortable with the 280 Rem A.I. so enjoy it.

true large cases hold more powder=more heat=shortened barrel life. This is my second Hart barrel and the first has had many rounds and very little wear so I'm going to cross my fingers and hope for the best. Plus this is just a fun gun. not for real competition. 1000 rounds ayear at most.
