There's a lot to like about the 6.5x55 though. Since it's a (relatively) low pressure cartridge, brass life should be very good, especially that beautiful, heavy Lapua brass. Case capacity is actually close to Remington .260 so those loads should work fine in the Swede, and then it's topped with that sweet shooting 6.5. And it likely has more years of development behind it than the .308 - albeit for older, weaker actions.
If McAlice wants to take more of a beating than really needed, who are we to try and change his mind? Some people just like pain.
