If he's man enough to take 80 aimed shots (a 220 grain bullet no less!) with a .308, more power to him! It's a great round with years of development.

There's a lot to like about the 6.5x55 though. Since it's a (relatively) low pressure cartridge, brass life should be very good, especially that beautiful, heavy Lapua brass. Case capacity is actually close to Remington .260 so those loads should work fine in the Swede, and then it's topped with that sweet shooting 6.5. And it likely has more years of development behind it than the .308 - albeit for older, weaker actions.

If McAlice wants to take more of a beating than really needed, who are we to try and change his mind? Some people just like pain.

I'm actually just starting out, and as such using my Model Seven in .308. For next year I'm thinking of picking up a 700 in 7-08 and rolling with that until I improve to the point where spending more on a new barrel will keep up with my abilities.

Ridgeway is where the guys at my club compete. It's about a 4 hr drive I guess with a border crossing thrown in the mix.

Bob won't agree with me on this but what the hell. I think you would be better off with something in the 6.5. Just stay away from the mags. They will beat your brains out and you will end up a little strange like some others that shoot the big ones. Good people but a little strange.
