This is the kind of advice I was looking for. I'd like to be as prepared as possible.

Unfortunately, arriving on Thursday just isn't an option. I will have to leave MO as early as practical on Friday morning, with the goal of arriving in the early afternoon hours on Friday. Then I can hopefully set up a tent - just a regular 6"x8" 2 man tent.

What will be going on Friday afternoon? I haven't seen a program yet, and don't actually know what a Coon Ass shoot is, although it sounds fun. The prize list looks excellent - I have heard more than one person say that the value of the stuff they won as prizes paid for their trip.

Then I'll plan to shoot in the SB matches on Sat and Sun - and possibly drive partway back before getting a room on Sunday night. Or, as suggested, I may camp another night and leave in the morning.

Naturally, I'll assume that the Louisiana weather will be cool and mild for that time of the year (perhaps mid-60's with low humidity) in June.

I'm getting fired up.

The Coon Ass Team shoot will begin at 5:30 PROMPTLY! We will give away some really nice prizes Friday night and have a fabulous meal.

The weather will probably be hot and humid and we do not promise anything! The last couple of years that weather has been nice, so knock on wood and come on down.

If you need anymore information, please email me.

Chango....4 persons on a team. They each shoot at one bank of animals, and the combined score from each bank plus the handicap is their team score. Now the handicap is based on the classes of the shooters on the team. In some matches (at the decision of the match officials) B class get 4 points, A get 3 points, AA gets 2 points, AAA and Master get zero points, for a maximum of 10 handicap points, per team. To obtain max points it becomes two A shooters, a B shooter and AAA/M or two B's and a AA, plus AAA/M shooter...it does not have to reach the max points.
As usual the match officials may alter, change, rearrange, or choose their own variations of the rules. Lots of fun, interesting and gives you a chance to do a lot of talking to get some of the timid newer shooters to shoot with your team so you can gain some handicap points.

Now the Coon ass match has always required a team name, so there are some interesting names that show up.

look forward to seeing you again,

Mary,
Good job on the short bus explanation!

The main part of the Coonass Team Shoot is the you MUST have a unique team name. If you turn in your team sign-up sheet without a name for your team, Jerry and I will assign you one to our liking! We have some really interesting team names and it is a lot of fun.

We will pay 5 team places this year and give out some really nice prizes. Usually about $2,000 in total prizes along with the coveted tee shirts!

The entire program should be online at www.winnsborogunclub.com next week and you can read it there.

Is it possible to join a team at the last minute for the purposes of the coon ass? (i.e. I'm a freelance coon ass who would probably enjoy shooting with other freelancers), but don't have 3 other guys to form a team.

Does it work like a golf outing - can you put 4 individuals, or 2 individuals plus an existing pair together to make a complete team?

Now I'm doubly fired up to attend.

SteveM. (AA shooter if anyone needs a lousy shot on their team).

There are many times some shooters tend to catch the coon ass fever and the MC(master of ceremonies)at the time will call for anyone wanting to join a team, so yes last minute arrivals are accommodated. Jason, as a Master it is up to you to try to recruit newer shooters to your team, don't worry someone will hook up with you.
And yes David, I did leave the team naming little part off, I wanted to see what names were picked this year.

There will be plenty of opportunity to join a team. If you know other shooters that are coming, call or email them and get your team set up. I do know that the two Australian shooters are not on a team yet. They are Master and AA shooters. If you do have a preference as whom you would like to be squadded with, please put it on your entry. We squad by first-come-first-serve basis.

Chango, If there are enough of you David may consider running a qualification match the day before, ask him, or do you have the records from the nationals?

Look forward to seeing you again.

Chango,
There is nothing stopping you from declaring that you are a master and shooting that class. I'm not sure that is the best thing to do, but if you want to you can.

We just need three years of records from either your National records books or the NRA Nationals that you have attended. We can always leave it up to the Jury. I want everyone to come and have a good time. We will not have time to run a qualification match, but if you have shot in an NRA National then that classification should do according to the rule book. I am not sure of the exact verbage in the rule book, but Mary can look it up. Please send me the actual classifications of the nine shooters from your area and I will classify them correctly; however, if anyone has not shot in the US, I am not sure but think that they have to shoot unclassified or Master.

The reason for getting classified at the NRA Nationals is that they run a practice and qualifying match one day to allow proper classification and we do not have that luxury.
