Scores Never Expire?

My previous post was not intended to put the idea of sandbagging out there. I did not realize that seasoned shooters would think this statement would even slightly lean toward the topic of sandbagging. My post was seeking advice about a rule that my wife and I need to understand completely because we run NRA matches at our local range. We do not want to prevent a shooter from moving up in classification when he or she has earned it, move a shooter up in classification when they have not earned it or just give a shooter the wrong interpretation of a rule. Every person that I have heard make that statement I quoted was a person who started this game later in life, worked hard and practiced hard to try to make Master before advancing age made it impossible. They were all people I greatly respected. Out of all the hobbies and sports I have participated in, the Shooting Sports have the highest percentage of ethical, honest participants. This thread is just one example of how this forum has helped me in running Smallbore and Air Rifle Approved Matches correctly but without being so picky that I run new shooters off. Thanks to everyone on this thread who explained just about every situation that could happen concerning the classification rule. Also, thanks to Quonset Hut for starting this topic.

My interpretation of what you wrote was that the individual was driven to succeed. Regardless of the perception of others that achieving Master class is in some way the preverbal

At our age you may have a point, either way I'm still learning.
All is fine in Paradise as far as I know, when we get together remind me to tell ya about the biggest transV I have ever seen. Got back state side the 13th.

Genphideaux, Did you hug the Anschutzs, the wife or the doggies first or all three at the same time? The order I listed those choices in have no particular significance.

Hugged the kids, checked on my guns and then asked the wife why we did not have pizza in the fridge. It is not like she expected any more from me. That women made only one mistake in life and I get to look at it every morning in the mirror.

Mr. Huddleston my apologies. I didn't intend to infer anyone was sandbagging. Just making a comment about how difficult Master class can be for those that just eke in to the class. You have to be an excellent shooter to get to Master... actually, you have to be a pretty darn good shot to get into AA... but once in Master you enter a new realm of performance that can be discouraging for those used to winning their class. Again, my apologies.

It is tough to score well. My mentor did Silhouette for about ten years. He could not get past AAA, and was not shooting high enough to win the class or compete for the State overall title. After some years of frustration, he went over to another shooting sport. Another guy was a good shot who had a 50 yard rimfire range on his property. He got a top quality gun, showed up for a match, and got a AA Hunter score. He never seemed to get in the groove again to score like that, and went to action pistol a couple years later.

I've never been that good a shooter, mainly because consistent positioning and NPA seem to be a foreign language to me. The summer I shot a case of .22 did help to give me some muscle memory, but that was almost fifteen years ago. Still getting Cancer treatment, I'm just glad to be able to shoot. Have to practice my hold at home - and shoot at 50 and 100 because my old club's range is long gone.
