If it is an "APPROVED" match the match director can make changes as needed within the rules.

Years ago there used to be a rule stating that flourescent orange was specifically not allowed. At our range the Rams are in the shade in the morning and black targets just plain disappear. White works well in the AM. However, in the afternoon when the sun hits directly on the Rams, they can't be seen unles we paint them black. Our solution was to paint them white, then apply Krylon flourescent yellow over top. They look great under all conditions. The paint is a bit expensive, but when painting over hits, you hit it with white first then the flourescent yelow.

This is what I have seen and done being at different matches is various parts of the country. I don't like using orange due to it has always been a safety color. As far as painting the animals differtent colors on the same bank, I don't agree with that, Everyone should shoot at the same color on all animals. If you want to paint the animals a different color from white or back,I don't see a problem with that. Paint them any color you like as long as all the animals are the same.

Historically the Hunter Pistol shooters at Nats in Raton are able to pick between shooting black or white targets. Depending on things like light or weather conditions they vote for white or black targets before the match starts. The guys running the Cowboy Nats at Raton to do the same the last couple of years but for the most part they painted the targets black.

If I remember correctly the color change was made during the break between rounds 1 and 2. I don't believe the change was made *during a round*. If it was during a round then it's my bad - I'm too soft when it comes to keeping people happy. Maybe next year I'll just paint them a nice camouflage...

Around Easter time one year we shot targets that were painted with just about every color they have in a spray can. Most of them were very hard to see.

I kinda like white caus it lets my black dot show up but I guess it depends on the color of the berms behind them.
