More expensive to feed, but worth it.

I just finished talking to Lee Oneil about his trip to the NRA two weeks ago. The silhouette committee discussed implementing the old 3 plus 2 magazine loading rule for HPHR, but in the end decided to leave the current rule in effect. Therefore, magazine loading is any combination of five rounds you want to use, single or multiple, as long as they are fed from the magazine. No other rule changes were made in HP silhouette. He said most of the meeting time was about Cowboy rifle silhouette. For those that dont have a copy of the current rule changes, this link is off the NRA website. http://www.nrahq.org/compete/rules/rul_ ... fle_07.pdf

I've always assumed my McMillan Master Silhouette stock made me a Standard gun only shooter, but since its not a thumbhole, if I can have it make weight can I shoot it in Hunter (it does have an ADL blind mag)?
Doesn't seem much less "hunter style" than a Pharr RT....

Of course the 2oz Jewell I just fell in love with would have to go, but there's other Jewell's out there........

After reading this discussion, and observing at many matches over the past 4 years, as a standard rifle shooter, I'm very dissapointed in the decisions made by Greg Connor and, more importantly, the silhouette committee since 1997.

I'm in favor or returning to a true factory rifle (bet we all have one) to encourage new shooters.

Rather than building another "close to" standard gun, I've opted to focus more on Lever Action Silhouette over the next few years

Fine with me, particularly if that includes factory AR rifles.

Love to use my AR but I don't think it fits the jig, can't use the magazine for support and mine's only .223

Guess you could shoot the larger calibrers in millitary class?

I think BB's been thinking 260 in an AR.........

I don't see any less shooters starting the sport in the last year because ther folks had custom built hunter guns.
Any shooting sport there is will have newcomers shooting with equipment they will have to upgrade down the line if they stick with it or become proficient.
Even if Hunter class used factory guns only, there are guns that a newbie showing up with a noodle stocked Savage would want to upgrade to if they stuck around a season or two.

Steve is right. I would not make any difference. To excel in HP silhouette, you need to shoot. Initally it does not make to much difference in the equipment, other than a good trigger which the cost of a trigger job should not scare anyone off. The rest is preperation and practice. After someone sticks with the game for awhile, then they might want to upgrade to a new more expensive rifle. This is common in all sports.

By the way, I shot a custom 6.5 x 47 today. At the pigs, the rifle placed touching holes and at the rams a 3 inches group. Absolutly awesome gun.

Hey Steve E, just killing some time waiting for the turkey dinner. Thought I would show you what an HPHR silhouette gun should look like. :) http://s190.photobucket.com/albums/z94/ ... C03278.jpg Enjoy your day....Bob M.

Yeah, I doubt my blue gun will be my HR gun, just curious.....
I have an old BDL stock with the monte carlo and pillar bedding that is waiting for me to find a 308, 260 or 7-08 700 to drop in it (or the LTR barreled action can go in it if I build a proper standard gun). The only straight comb stock I have I like is my USMC trade in M40A1 stock, and that's only with a cheekpad/stockpack on it.
I'm even trying my hand at stipling the slick areas of the grip....

Correct. Remington .223 won't even ring the animals, just punch holes in 'em and then everybody gets all excitable without even giving you any points...
