With NRA HP, I have a lot of experience with round sights. Real easy and effective with a round bulls eye target.
What your you (those of you who are using a round front aperture sight) using for a hold?
Thanks

Howdy, ppkny,
I enjoyed meeting you at the Levergun Jubilee at Ridgway. The Snover apertures range from .085" to .155", nothing as large as .175." I use an aperture that covers the animal's center of mass, disregarding the 'extremities.' So I mostly use .140", but I'll go to .150" in dim light.
As someone has mentioned, Jim Kluskens at Distant Thunder will make custom inserts starting at $11 with a maximum aperture of .170".
Here's a link to his inserts:

Cimarron Red,
Likewise fun shoot if it wasn't so cold that day. The link you sent is great, those look like just the ticket to do some more testing with. The one that I made has the entire animal inside the hole making it easy to get centered.

You're most welcome, ppkny! I had Jim Kluskens make several custom aperture inserts for me. Because I like the annulus width of the Snover inserts -- .050" as I recall -- that's the width I specified on the inserts I ordered from Distant Thunder. I'll double check the Snover width and post here.

Has anyone heard if the November 4th meeting resolved the front aperture issue?

Al,
Did Rob give you any specifics on the new rule? There are lots of custom apertures available.

No, frankly I didn't even think about it. I did jokingly suggest we should just go to Reflex sights. I told him I wasn't for the change, but wasn't adamant about it. I bought a full set of fiber optics from Brian last spring and never even used them and may not, lol. I do know there were a number of competitors who wrote in and were for the change more than against. Al Bean

There is some hyperbole for ya.
With fiber optic sights and lenses being legal, I really don't see how one can object to truly traditional, period-correct apertures.

That's exactly why I personally don't care that much either way. The cream will still rise regardless of the sight system. The game will be gone in 10 years or so. The vast majority shooting are Super Seniors, Seniors and soon to be Seniors . If apertures keep a few old farts shooting a few more years, that's not a bad thing for them nor the game. Al Bean

Keep in mind also that while the silhouette committee approved the rule change, the rules committee still has to approve it.
