Hey all, Just an update on the adaptor rings. All is going to plan. Had to make a set of go, no-go thread gages (both sizes) to set the machine parameters, made a few test parts. Be patient, we'll get a batch run soon. The price will be $12.50 each, shipping included . Foreign postage may be more , I will advise you of cost. They will ship in a padded envelope with cardboard inserts for more protection. Don't send any money yet! I will advise you when and where to send funds. (my Cayman Island account) PS.....no elk last weekend...did not even see one. Saw lots of coyotes though. Will be out again this weekend, supposed to be even more snow than last week.

Something occurred to me tonight, Bob. Even though Weaver T24 and T36 scopes comprise a very large percentage of the scopes on the line at silhouette matches, none of the nice accessories that are available for Leupold scopes are available for the Weaver target scopes. The Leupold item that got me thinking about it was the 50ft adapter that I have taped onto an extra Weaver sunshade so I can dryfire practice indoors. I sure would love to have a real adapter to use that would allow that adapter to screw in directly as well as use the other Leupold accessories like color filters for varying conditions. Based on your prices, it looks like you are doing this out of the kindness of your heart and not trying to make money. If you decide you might want to get into the Weaver-to-Leupold adapter business, too, I'll definitely buy and will even send you a Weaver sunshade and Leupold 50ft adapter to use as models.

Jason, not familiar with the Weaver shade. I'm thinking it has too thin a wall to cut ID threads into. Let alone coming up with a method to hold on to it without crushing it out of round. A better idea might be to make a press fit ring, from nylon, that inserts into the ID of the shade to a shoulder with threads to fit Leupold stuff. You are correct about any profit motive. I dont think anyone could get rich on a simple ring. Just helping out the Steelchickens gang. I still wonder why Leupold would not return to making the old shade with the new threads, or offer a ring of their own.

I don't mean cutting threads into either the existing sunshade or the accessories. I was thinking of cutting an adapter with inside threads on one end with uncut center section of 1/4" or so for strength and outside threads cut on the other end.

OK..I understand now.....no promises.....I'll look at and try to measure a Weaver at one of our next matches. Can you tell me the out side diameter of the 50ft. adaptor? Also can anyone please tell me what the outside diameter of the other Leupold Alumina accessory filters is?

Hi everyone, I finally have the adaptor rings in quantity. After some sizing and tooling issues to overcome and getting some open time on the CNC, I have 75 rings ready to deliver. Let me go over the story behind their development. In 2004, Leupold changed the threads on the objective end of their AO 40mm scopes. It was a 48 pitch thread. It is now a 32 pitch. This was done to reduce the chance of people cross threading the Alumina accessories also introduced in 2004.
For some reason, the sunshade was reduced in diameter. As most will agree, it looks awful. Many of us are buying the new 6.5-20x EFR and other AO 40mm Leupolds and they are now supplied with the small diameter sunshade. Most of us have a good supply of old style (read "good looking") sunshades. The ring simply allows the old style sunshades to screw into the new post 2004 AO 40mm scopes. Early on I made a bunch of them on a manual lathe, but this is labor intensive. The CNC cranks them out much faster with excellent dimensional repeatibility.
Leupold still continues to make and sell the full line of older pre 2004 sunshades.They are sold at most Leupold dealers. As one of my customers wrote me:"the ring is a great solution to a problem created by Leupold". I could'nt agree more. The price of each ring is $12.50 shipping included.
