With the affordability oh 7.62x39
With 7.62x39 ammo why is so little said about that cartridge I silhouette? Ammo seems plentiful and modern actions are coming chambered in it.
Why the disinterest?

Poor long range ballistics... but it might be fun to try anyways.

There is one being used here in Australia, loaded with Trailboss for a junior girl. It is pretty accurate but stands most rams, I call it "The Mortar".

Re: With the affordability oh 7.62x39
Problem with 7.62x39mm is the lack of good bullets in .312" diameter.
Now build a rifle using a .308 bore and a 1x13 Palma twist barrel and things change drastically.
Seat a 155 Palma SMK bullet long with 29 grains of AA2230 AND you have a competitive cartridge at 17 moa from 200 to 500 meters.
The 135 SMK is another good bullet for 200/300 meter work.
I have shot many 38, 39/40 x40 military shilouette matches with a cz24 modified action and 2nd hand chamber set back Palma barrel in mil sporter class prone matches in cal.

I'm now shooting 6.5 grendel in silhouette with two howa mini 1500 rifles 22" pencil barrel hunter class, and 20" bull barrel mdt chassis std. Rifle class.
Rams all fall with nosler 123 gr8. Custom comp bullets.

6mmint, what is your 6.5mm Grendel load?
I built myself one back around 2007 and it loves the Norma 130's.
Share your info please, I can share mine, if you are interested.
My latest experiment is a 300 whisper/blackout in a 700 action.
I will probably change it to a 338 whisper based on the Grendel case.
Thanks, Dennis

I usually shoot the 100 Sierra at chic/pigs 29 gr. A2520 and nosler 123CC under 28.1gr. A2520
Lots of recipe's on 6.5g forum, never lost a ram or pig.
Will try more bullets powders this year.
