MARLIN CL 32-20
hi folks,
picked up marlin cl in 32-20, loaded up some new remington brass, with a light crimp. some chamber a little snug, just wondering if they will be better after fire forming, or go with starline brass. thanks.....dan
up date, did use fl die did not size the case down very much. loading the xtp in 85 & 100 gn, also the sierra 90 gn, using lee dies, will see how they reload after they fire form....dan

Re: MARLIN CL 32-20
We have three in 32-20. I really like that round. We use starline brass, a 100 grain xtp and a recommended charge of 4198 straight out of the lyman loading manual. I have tried MANY different lead bullet loads with trail boss, titegroup, unique and I always come right back to the xtp bullet and 4198.

Check your bullet crimp and see if there's a pucker on the tight rounds, which will cause tightness.

Re: MARLIN CL 32-20
I always full length size and TRIM to .010" less than max case length on new brass. A "long" case could cause the "bulging case" problem they're talking about. Glen, what range powder weights does the Lyman book recommend for which brand of 4198 ? looking for slower velocity than the 2200 f.p.s. Hornady loading manual lists for W296,H110 H4227, & Acc#9.Thanks, Steve

Re: MARLIN CL 32-20
I'm not the anal reloader, but definitely first time through I full length and trim back...get them uniform. Also, few times when I forgot to to bell case mouths got some weird bulges(and crushed a couple). Back in the day for Hunter Pistol used Blue Dot. These days I'm using 4227 and the 100 gr Hornady, fairly potent, some of the guys are using a little bullseye and a 100 gr lead. I actually didnt get spectacular results off bench, but could have been my technique, yet they go where I point. I'm pretty confident in it, don't think I shot less than a Master score this past summer and set a Ram LR record. Al Bean

Re: MARLIN CL 32-20
hi folks - range report,
got out today, with marlin cl 32-20, had a leupold 12x mounted on it. shot some groups at 50 yds, and the sierra 90 gn bullet shot
+/- an inch. the xtp 85gn went 1.5 or so. at 100 yds the sierra 90 gn was just a little over 1.5, and the 85 gn xtp was 3.0 +++.
all were loaded with imr 4227, 12 gns, on new rem brass. will try the reload 1x brass, and see the results. it appears the sierras shoot well in this gun. opened for loads and ideas. thanks for all the input........dan

Re: MARLIN CL 32-20
Most any of the lead I have tried with lesser amounts of 4227 can print groups smaller than 1 inch at 50 yards. Try some properly sized 115 grain LFP and see what you get.
