2015 LAPUA World Cup of Silhouette

Post by dustinflint »

The entries are in, the brackets are filled and the 2015 LAPUA World Cup of Silhouette is set to kick off in March! This year we have 56 shooters. The tournament is divided into three brackets: bracket 1 is the championship bracket and features only shooters who are Master class in both Standard and Hunter smallbore rifles. Bracket 2 features shooters who are AAA in either Standard or Hunter smallbore rifle. Bracket 3 is for shooters who are AA and below. There are 20 shooters in Bracket 1; 20 shooters in Bracket 2 and 16 shooters in Bracket 3.

This year there are 4 overall seeds, chosen solely on the results of last year's tournament. Matthew Canning from Ireland finished in the top four of last year's tournament but he is unable to shoot this year - so, the top 4 overall seeds are:

(1) Dustin Flint
(2) Cathy Winstead-Severin
(3) Mary Watkins
(4) Bill Motl

From there, each shooter in Bracket one was given a seed of 2 - 5 based on last year's performance and/or recent scores. Each shooter was then randomly placed into one of four groups.

The first 4 months of this tournament (3 months for Bracket 3) is the Group stage. In the group stage, each shooter shoots against every other shooter in his group once. After each match, a shooter either comes away with 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, or zero points for a loss. Each group contains 5 shooters (4 for Bracket 3). At the end of the group stage, the two shooters in each group with the highest point totals will advance from the group into the knockout stages. From there, it is single elimination to the championship.

According to the rules, the payout will be as follows. The winner of Bracket 1 will get $100. The winner of Bracket 2 will get $100. The winner of bracket 3 will get $80. Each of the shooters that reach the semifinals of Brackets 1 & 2, excluding the winners, will get $33.33. each of the shooters that reach the semifinals of Bracket 3, excluding the winner, will get $26.67.

Everyone that pays their entry fee will be eligible to win a brick of Lapua Center-X or SK Rifle Match. I believe we are going to do the drawing in Winnsboro in June.

If you are entered in this tournament, look for an email from me, probably tomorrow. Also, I will post the Group Stage match schedules sometime soon.

Enough about all that - TO THE BRACKETS!!!

It was actually entirely random that none of the Steigers ended up in the same group. I hate to tell you, but not being with your kids is the only thing about that group that you have to be thankful for. That is by far the most brutal group in the entire tournament!

The matchups for the group stage are posted below. Each shooter in a group shoots against every other shooter in the group once. The shooter that wins the matchup gets 3 points; the shooter that loses the matchup gets zero points; if there is a tie, each shooter gets 1 point. At the end of the group stage, the 2 shooters in each group with the most points will advance out of the group and into the round of 8 and the knockout rounds. From there, the tournament will be single elimination - The last shooter standing in each bracket is the winner.

Note that Bracket 1 (Master) and Bracket 2 (AAA) have 5-shooter groups. In order for each shooter to matchup up against each other shooter in the group and finish the group stage in June, certain matchups will require scores from different months to be compared against each other. For instance, as you can see in the schedule below: in Group 1A, Mallory Nichols will face off against Jerry Tureau using Mallory's April score and Jerry's March score. You can see the score that will be used for each shooter in each matchup in parenthesis below. This can seem a little confusing but it is not really. Each shooter will shoot one match per month, turn in the scores and they will be properly recorded and the matchups will be reported. Bracket 3's Group Stage Schedule is more straight-forward with each match occurring month-to-month.

Like last year, I will update the results of each matchup on this thread as they happen. Several shooters will begin their World Cup this weekend. Good luck to all the shooters!

I forgot to discuss the tiebreakers during the group stage of the tournament. At the end of the group stage, if two or more shooters are tied in points for the first or second spot, the first tiebreaker is the highest total score over the three or four match group stage.

If a tie still exists after that, we will go to total reverse animal count, turkeys then rams then chickens then pigs.

If a tie still exists after that, the tied shooters will face off in an Epic Rap Battle - like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3w2MTXBebg
