smallbore silhouette footwear??

Post by newpep »

What is the smallbore silhouette rule about footwear? I was told you could not ware shoes or boots that covered the ankles. Is this true, if so, why?

That is absolutely not true. TONS of us wear boots of all flavors.

I do believe that full on purpose built shooting boots are out though. So I guess not that flavor.

I didn't think it was true, but I had to ask. Wondered how it could be considering shooting in cold weather. Thanks

Think the rule is "no competition clothing" Shooting intl style Air Rifles you wear stiff flat sole boots, even some rules on the boot, have to be able to walk in it most shuffle they are so flat. Clearly they would not be allowed in Silhouette. However flat sole is an advantage. Makes no sense to me to wear soft running shoes designed to absorb shock when what you want to do is stand still. Lot of people do, you see worn out down an the heel shoes too.

I use flat sole ankle high work boots, and only use them for shooting offhand. Don't want them to get worn & rounded over. Within the rule but gives advantage.

Perhaps if I wore something other than flip flops my scores might improve....?

Merlin - I tried flip-flops, didn't help. And walking out to the 100 yard line wasn't much fun either.

See flip flops and Crocs on the line all the time. Take your pick, comfort style or solid offhand position.

In the summertime, plenty of folks shoot barefoot.

Not so much here in Montana. That concrete gets awfully cold at night and is shaded almost all day. Granted last year was my first year, but I didn't see anyone barefoot.

If I buy a set of Redwing boots specifically for shooting silhouette wouldn't that make them competition boots since that is the only reason I bought them?

Technically every piece of clothing you have on while competing in silhouette is "competition clothing".

I'm not sure I want to see too many of y'all shooting in your birthday suits. @-)

I am telling you all wearing the Anschutz shooting thong will add 3 points to your scores right away! =))

Going to shoot tomorrow and its going to be chilly so I get to wear my hunting boots which gives me the best platform I have found. Only problem is we might get 2 months a year where you can wear the insulated boots before it gets to hot to use them.

What part? The shooting barefoot or wearing the Anschutz thong?
