Dry fire practice

I need a little advice. I have been dry firing from my bedroom, through the dining room, through the living room and to the wall. Its about 45 feet and I am using a small piece of white paper with a black square sharpied on it. Heres my new problem. I just got a leupold fx3 25x40 and the AO only focuses down to 50 yards. Is there any way to get it to focus closer? Should I just measure out my window to my neighbors house and hang my target there when he isn't looking? Got any other ideas for practicing? Get the adapter if you afraid of freaking your neighbor out. I have the same issue I can focus all my scopes to 10y except for my HP rifle with the FX3 on it. So I do like you mentioned and use the fence as my dry fire target out the window about 60 yards away from inside. No one can see me though I even setup little SB animals on the horizontal wood slates.

Thanks for the replys. So that adapter just makes it a fixed 50 ft focus? You just screw it on the objective? Thats the ticket!

I have been interested in this thread because I have the same problem with my Leupold FX 3 scope as well.

I use the adapter on my FX3 25x scope when shooting indoors at 50 feet. Works like a champ! Interestingly enough, when the adapter is installed, I have to set my AO at infinity to focus at 50'. Not a problem, just an observation.

I'm going to hijack my own thread now. Does anyone else use the fx3 25x40 for smallbore? Does it focus ok down to chickens? I'll get to test it out tomorrow, but I was just wondering. I'm a little worried that it might not. The vortex I'm using now focuses down to 15 yards, so there is no problem. Ah well, can't wait to get it out there....

I use the fx3 for smallbore. It is just a little fuzzy at chickens.I think the newer ones(last couple years) will focus at 40 meters.

I was going to suggest that you send it back to Leupold to have them correct the focus and make the chickens clear, Leroy. As well as you've been shooting lately, though, I'm pretty happy with the you just keeping those chickens blurry. That will give the rest of us a chance to win.

Yes, I have 2 FXIII 25X Leupolds and both focus clearly at 40 yards. Have you tried adjusting the ocular with the objective at the closest it will go? If it won't parralax free then you should send it back. They will adjust it for you gratis.

Maybe its me that's a little fuzzy!!!

Mine will also focus at 40m very well. I can see all the paint cracks and chips. My problem is the dot moving around tends to make me sea sick. My Chicken setting is actually above the 50 mark on the ring. It will go down past 50 another 1/4". Maybe your looking through the wrong part of your glasses. Might have your contacts in upside down.

I haven't gotten out to the range yet, I was just hoping it would focus to 40. There seems to be a bit of play below the 50 yard focus. I'm going out at lunch today to zero it, I'll let you know how it turns out. Also I ordered the 50 foot attachment so I can dry fire in my house. My neighbors would definitely go all kinda krazy if they even saw me with a gun. They are new transplants to MT and seem a little cityfied.
