Another toy in the box.

More expensive to feed, but worth it.

Remind me never to room near Beckley in the future.
Why so he won't hear the headbaord hitting the wall?

OK, couldn't help myself. Here is a photo of some other amazingly similar rifles that are mostly the same. Just messin with ya , Jason. :ympeace: Remington 700 SA's, HS Precision stocks, some Douglas barrels, higher x Leupolds and factory stock triggers tuned to perfection. The wood stocked classic was put together exclusively for use at the world famous Gateway Dynamite Shoot. I used it to set another record there this last Oct. by hitting the first ever 505 yard offhand target. Never did see my name on TV or anything. :(( Oh yeah, they are all 7-08's. 8)

Surely you can't shoot all those enough. I volunteer to take one or two and hunt with it just so it gets to see the light of day. Oh.. and get some stainless or otherwise silver rings for that last one. Its outfit doesn't match like the others. :))

Hey, they all get plenty of exercise if you know what I mean. The two with 25x's already have about 3700 rounds each on them. They get shot only at special events like the Snakes match, Arizona state, Raton and Wyoming , etc. I had a Leupold dual dovetail silver set on the top gun in the picture. The action had too much rear hole misalignment and I had to near max out the windage knob to compensate. No good situation. I had the screw adjustable ones in a drawer, black or not they were paid for. No regrets, they look good to me.

I know those are not your words Jason, but I think this idea is counter productive to attracting new HP shooters. A full out "one of the best" custom builds can easily exceed two thousand dollars.
McAlice....the cost probably isn't that big a factor in our game. The over-the-course game has been growing ...in fact long range classes at our club are always well attended. And Their equipment is far more expensive. While our game has it all...moderately long range...the clank of metal...and great friendly competitors ....yet we dwindle. My theory is that our game doesn't have anonymity...we can all see how you shot. The other games require 'scoring'...which is done out of sight. Lots of folks think we're all looking at their scores....little do they know that we're much more concerned with our own ;)

JB...and here I thought Mcalice and his bride were newly weds or maybe that he just returned from a very long trip :-? Then maybe it was bob's way of getting a 'leg up' on Boner :D

Whilst Bob has a preternatural love of 7-08's, me thinks he suffers from something Ralph Waldo Emerson elucidated succinctly:

Self-Reliance is an essay written by American Transcendentalist philosopher and essayist, Ralph Waldo Emerson. It contains the most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes, the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his or her own instincts and ideas. It is the source of one of Emerson's most famous quotations: "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds"

I'm thinking Bob needs to diversify his 7mm portfolio. To wit; properly designed chamberings in 7mm BR along with the soon to be on-the-line 7-04, should add balance to his "rifle stable." Too much of a "good thing," just might not be, a good thing.

preternatural = exceeding what is natural or regular
elucidated = To make clear or plain
succinctly = with concise and precise brevity

Just in case anyone else was wondering what DanDeMan is speaking of. No offense sir, but you do realize that this is a forum for silhouette shooting and not scholarly journals, right?

Snake, If the area hadn't been in a drought, I'm sure someone would have done the decent thing and thrown a bucket of water on them. One thing I have been pondering is that if they did sneek into the clubhouse and if someone with a strong stomach would have taped it, what would be the title of it? St. Louis Benchrest Club not just for playing with guns. Grab the Lysol boys the couch has been soiled, or my personal favorite Grandpa unloads at the range!

Snake, you sternly warned Sara and I many years ago about pulling off any hanky panky in the clubhouse. I believe the threat was Youtube exposure. We are innocent of all the wild accusations in this thread. :p

Trent, being the simple man that I am I did not know the meaning of a bunch of Dans words. Thanks for providing the meanings. I agree with you 100% Dan, that has gotta be the coolest collection of 7-08's on the planet. :D

Thanks for the =p~ comment , Addicted. You being a fellow 7-08 shooter I can understand your feelings. :ymhug:

Dan, thanks for dropping in on this thread...really. Your 7mm-04 sounds like a spin off of the 7mmTCU, is it? I am looking forward to reading all you can provide us of its performance on the animals.

Bob,

You are on the "money," the 7-04 is a highly modified variant of the 7 TCU that is based on the 204 Ruger, case by Hornady. The Hornady brass is very nice and goes for a reasonable price. The 204 Ruger case is longer than a 223 case. And, what I'm calling the 7-04 (tongue firmly planted in cheek about ripping off the 7-08 monicker) should do the job on rams quite well.

The chamber reamer was designed to accommodate the 162 SST so that only the boattail is below the neck to maximize powder capacity. VarGet is the spec'ed powder for rams and H4198 Extreme for the 139 SST's out to turkeys.

One of the design goals is to develop what I call a "sipper" round. That is, it sips powder and uses inexpensive bullets. The fire-form loads have up to 30.0 grains of VarGet with the 162-gr SST's; 30.0 grains in the non-fire-formed cases is 100 % load density. That charge should propel the 162's to about 2,350 fps. Once the cases are fire-formed, case capacity should go up by about 2.0 grains of VarGet. The short-line load is spec'ed to be 20.0-gr of H4198 Extreme that should propel the 139 SST's to about 1,800 fps. Talk about sippen powder. And, barrel life should be quite long shooting this highly efficient round. Oh, the barrel is a 26", Douglas XX Premium in an 8-twist so it will also handle my large stash of 177-gr, Cauterucio VLD's. Once the cases are fire-formed I'm estimating the Big C's should be able to be launched to a bit over 2,300 fps. From experience using an 8-twist, 7mm PPC Improved years ago, I know the 7-04 launching the 177 C's will knock the rams in the dirt with high reliability.

Pharr has the barreled action, an XR-100, and stock from Treebone Carving (Pharr Hunter Pattern.) He'll be opening-up the barrel channel and pillar bedding it for me. The rifle should be back the beginning of January. I'll be doing the finish work on the stock.

The below picture shows the 7-04 next to its big brother, the 7-08. That 7-08 dummy round was used to design an F-Class round capable of launching the 177-gr Cauterucios to 2,800 fps. I've always liked the 7-08 and have used it for hunting and HP silhouette for years. But, having an F-Class rifle built around it would be way sweet, no???
